I have really enjoyed using the new Maps system and I look forward to it adding new features so I take this with a grain of salt, but after 30-45 minutes of play the players maps will die out and say the DM is no longer running maps and then it has also died on my end as well. Is this an intentional feature and I'm just not moving my mouse on the page often enough?

Ran a game yesterday and this issue is still happening.
It is an intentional feature. The point of Maps is when players are needing to use it to move tokens and such. If you're going 30+ minutes with no activity it will stop the session. The timer is used to reduce system bandwidth and resources while not being actively used, limit map access when it thinks your session is over (so players aren't accessing it out of session time and editing things they shouldn't) and so on.
Since this is an intended behaviour, it is not a bug and unlikely to change until the Maps is better managed both behind the scenes with data management and front-end with security. It may be a while.

Definitely agree.. As I'm running this as a Tabletop map with minifigures, a timeout toggle would be excellent, or even an adjustable timer so we can set a session length.
Will setting a random token on map and moving it solve this for now?
I havent found a fix really, we try to interact with the map as much as possible to keep it from timing out but it basically just seems random if it decides to shut down or not
I use Maps with real miniatures and a custom digital table (screen in wooden case).
In my use case, the timeout is really annoying as we have to reload constantly both DM and spectator views. Were are not using digital tokens but i use the fog of war, measurments or area of effect features for instance. As a single round of combat in D&d can easily last 30 minutes, and not every round requires a digital interaction, the timeout is kicking often, like every 1 or 2 rounds of combat.
Feels akward for a product supposed to support games that lasts 4-8 hours to timeout so quickly.
It would be great if you can consider players using Maps with miniatures in the roadmap.
my party is in the exact same scenario. It was amazing for measurements and FoW but the time outs have been to cumbersome and annoying to make the product useable. Hopefully this issue is addressed soon
I am also experiencing the same issue. I use the maps at my table with miniatures. A simple toggle feature to not time out the maps would be of great benefit. I was running the Auril fight with Rime of the Frostmaiden yesterday and I had to refresh and reset the map like 5 times during the long fight.
The "fix" that has worked best for me is to have an invisible token on my dm map that I just move every 10 minutes or so... Hasn't been an issue since..
You're welcome... I hope it works well for you too... The only time I've had a blackout since doing this was when I got so wrapped up in what was happening I forgot to move the icon..
Yes, of course the token trick works but you have to continually remember to 'cheat' the timeout which is neither a good thing for dndbeyond.com (we are pushing their app a way they did not plan) neither an advantage for the DMs (it's a painful task, as DMs we have a lot of other things to think to).
I'm also using the MAPS tool to project on my table and having the same issue. It is VERY annoying since you need to reload the DM side, the spectator side and then resize, move the map to its original location (I use a chromecast on my 2nd computer) Email support about that and they did not even read what i wrote and replied me with a pre-written answer that made no sense at all. I mean, this is a ROLE PLAYING GAME, of course there will be very long moments where we won't interact with the map, because roleplay... Timeout should be at least one or 2 hours, not 10-15 minutes.
I hope they'll fix this very soon, i love the tool, it's quick and very easy to use.
From what I've seen it seems to be a browser session time out thing. Anytime a map has acted up if the DM just clicks refresh button on their web browser tab running the map, it seems to fix the issue shortly thereafter for for the DM, and then all the players browser windows shortly thereafter. It can be annoying but takes a mere click and 30 secs or so to restore so far for us.

I use maps for a vtt video table. If there was a way to toggle the "feature" on and off it would save alot of headaches

Strongly seconded. I use maps the same way and the timeouts make me want to go back to paper maps.
I run a 5e campaign using published adventures every other weekend in my garage. Been going strong with the current group for nearly a year.
Same "problem" here. It would be REALLY great if they took away this "feature" or made an on/off choice.
Any news?

But every time I have to reset the map and move and resize it. It destroys immersion and is just a colossal pain in the butt.
