The way to do this is to go to Racial Traits, then select the modifier like you normally would for a single trait. Add 2 to one of the ability scores, then go back out and add an additional modifier. You can do this as many times as you like.
I am experiencing a similar issue to the one listed at the top, except that i want to give this race a -2 in a stat (charisma to be exact) what do i click to achieve this?
Yeah... i’m having the same problem. I can’t exactly have a goldfish with the same strength score as an elf or tiefling...

You will need two Modifiers:
Modifier—>Bonus
Modifier Subtype—>Strength Score
Fixed Value—> “-X”
Modifier—>Set
Modifier Subtype—>Strength Score Maximum
Fixed Value—> “-Y”
Whatever you set for X will reduce their Str by that number. Whatever you set for Y will reduce the max by that number, Max is 20, so if Y=12, then the new max will be 8. The minus sign on the number pad might not work, use the one on the regular keyboard.
My Subrace isn't gaining the ASI from this Race, but I did exactly as was demonstrated in the screenshot except I applied it to Dex not Con. I'm trying to increase the Dex score by 2 to give a +1 bonus to the modifier. Is it because it isn't transferring over or did I make a mistake? Can I get help from a Mod?
Nevermind, I made a copy of my character and it must have updated the format. It wouldn't update the original character when I previously made the changes to my Homebrew race. Once I made a copy, that version had the updated stats, but the original still doesn't. Hope this is fixed or that someone can use this trick until then.
i have been having an issue where i do as the diagrams above show but the characters skill bonuses are higher than they should be. one one race they were all 3 higher and on another they were all 7 higher.
I'm currently having issues with ability score increases, I've done what the examples have shown but when I go to make a test character the scores have no racial bonuses. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
I tried thing thing in the screen shot but it didn't work
Once again, again... After you add, remove, or alter anything on any Homebrew, like Modifiers, you MUST re-save the entire Homebrew using the main [SAVE CHANGES] button under Basic Information. After that, there will be a delay ranging anywhere from seconds to up to 20 minutes. (I have seen some reports claiming overnight, but cannot confirm that.) So remember these two things:
Main Save
Patience
If you put (Modifier: Bonus->Subtype: [Ability]->Fixed Value: X) on any homebrews Race/Subrace/Racial Variant, Subclass, or Feat (and I believe Magic Items as well), it will in fact raise the indicated Ability Score by a value of X on any characters using that Homebrew, up to a maximum of 20. (20 is the standard cap set for most PC available options save for a select few Magic Items that can break the 20 ceiling, and the Barbarians 20th-level feature. To break that 20 cap requires a combination of Modifiers and the limit is still 30 topped out.) I know it works because I homebrew a fair amount and it always works.
In addition, for your (I am assuming) racial traits as well as any class features, you have to set the “Feature Type” to “Granted” and neither “additional” nor “replacement” as those are for the optional features from Tasha’s.
That still doesn't work. i put that in but it doesn't add anything in the scores part of the character builder
So you have selected the "Bonus" and then the ability score of your choice, for example "Wisdom Score". Have you then put the amount that it is increased by?
I tried to increase more than one ability score like this, but the rest of the modifiers do not increase. I would like to do a day walker feat that increases all the ability scores that do not match a vampires stats for one particular character and so this is a custom feat for one player. I was able to increase the first mod, str, but the second and third, etc., do not work, following this same procedure. Is there a limit? Must I do multiple feats?
I'm knew to homebrew and wanted to know how to set my homebrews ability scores optional just like the ones in Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse so it can be applied in the abilities section of the builder. If anyone can help with that I'd really appreciate it :)

I've been futzing with this thing for the past 2 hours actually. So one issue is when creating a SUBRACE or VARIANT you may want to change the Ability Score Increase for that Subrace... [insert DM flavor reasoning here] but when you classify the attribute for the new race as a Replacement vs a Granted attribute it doesn't replace it. So at one point I had +4 / +3 for the stats in question (Str & Con), and couldn't override the base race bonuses, despite it saying it could. In some instances it doesn't show up at all. In some instances I need to choose a different race and then re-choose the "working copy" to have it activate.
Another logistical sticking point is that when working on different versions (at least if one is using Chrome as a browser), there will be numerous versions of your sub-race and difficult to figure which is which. I've also entered in changes to Darkvision, to not see the change at all.
The whole process is still EXTREMELY cumbersome, like a beta-version of some program the we kickstartered or something...
Booooo.

You almost never want to make anything a “Replacement” or “Additional” feature/trait, pretty much just always “Granted.” Replacement and Additional don’t actually do what you think they do, those are how you make Custom Lineages like in Tasha’s Cauldron, and they’re a bigger pain in the 455 than they’re worth most of the time unless you 1) really know how they work, and 2) are super anal about things and absolutely need it to work that way for some strange reason.
The difference between Subraces and Variant races is that a subrace will automatically include all the base racial traits plus the subrace traits, a variant race will include some of the base race traits and all of the variant racial traits. So if you ever want to make something that replaces the base racial traits, then you don’t want a subrace at all, you want a variant race instead.
Taking those👆two facts, what you want to do is make a Variant race that has a Granted trait that replaces the base race’s ASI trait, NOT a subrace with Replacement traits at all.
Another two things to note are:
The system will only ever pick up your changes after the main [SAVE CHANGES] button under Basic Information has been hit. So every time you add anything to, remove anything from, or change anything on any homebrew, you then MUST re-save the entire project or the changes will not push through to the character sheet.
The system only updates it’s server caches in 15-20 minute cycles, and it’s been a bit wonky lately because the site Devs have been fiddling with stuff behind the veil. That means that even after you re-save the project, it’ll still take time before those changes actually take effect, so remember, patience is a virtue. (Trust me, as I was born without a patience gland I know how frustrating that can be.)
To top it all off, races make things even more complicated than other homebrews for yet 2 more reasons:
Remember when I wrote about the main [SAVE CHANGES] button under Basic Information? Well, for subraces and variants that means re-saving all the way back at the base race level for optimal results.
Races have a habit of getting “stuck” in old server caches, which prevents changes from actually showing up on character sheets. You occasionally have to “wake them up” by removing the race and adding it back again (as you’ve noticed).
I am having a similar issue. I am using a homebrew variant human that does not give +1 to all ability scores, but instead gives a +1 to 3 ability scores and -1 to 2 ability scores but the player gets to choose. I put in the homebrew race but the PHB ability score increase is still there affecting the scores. I tried creating an Ability Score Increase, but it will not allow me to replace the original Ability Score Increase.
The way to do this is to go to Racial Traits, then select the modifier like you normally would for a single trait. Add 2 to one of the ability scores, then go back out and add an additional modifier. You can do this as many times as you like.

I hope this is helpful.

Re-save the whole homebrew using the main [SAVE CHANGES] button and check back in the morning to see if it updates.

You can’t make them selectable on the Abilities tab of the character builder, but you can make floating ASIs like the newer races get.
