In spellcaster characters I can only remove spells, the prepared function isn't working on Firefox or Chrome. I checked on the app and it does appear to be working there.
Similiar to other bug forums I've read. In opening the character and going to "Manage Spells", all prepared spells only show a "Delete" option and in the spellbook, I only have the options to "Delete" or "Learn" for the spells.
I've tested on PC in Firefox, Chrome, Opera GX and Edge. Tests were also done on multiple devices such as laptop, Xbox (Edge browser only), and Android phone (both website and app).

Hi, understood, but this is regarding Dndbeyond functionality of something that use to work, but now does not. I'm well aware of the mechanics of Preparing spells.
Is there a fix for this? My wizard just had the same problem start happening today. It was fine the last time I played him, and my cleric's sheet is also fine, but my wizard's spells are unpreparable. :(
It's just the word on the button using learn/delete instead of prepare/unprepare. The button still functions the same.

I wish that were the case, but sadly no. When you select "delete" to "unprepare" the spell, it is deleted from my spellbook. The best option I have is to go into character editor and swap my spells around there where deleting and relearning them is less of a pain.
I've reached out to DNDBeyond for support, but they essentially said:
"This does not appear to be a bug but how the system is currently suppose to function. However we will take your feedback into account to make the process of changing spells easier.
Feedback such as this is all that is necessary to bring such a request to the appropriate teams for consideration. While we cannot make any guarantees on behalf of the teams that make these decisions, we want to assure you that requests of this nature are particularly important to our company as we strive to make our games a welcoming environment for anyone that wishes to play.
With that in mind, our team has escalated the feedback you have provided to the appropriate teams for review. While we cannot guarantee a response from that team regarding this feedback, you have our guarantee that this suggestion will be reviewed and considered by those teams. Thank you again for your willingness to get in touch and provide this suggestion."
Which at this point I just expect it to never be fixed and just continue to deal with it. I've deleted all of my homebrew stuff and remade my character, but just seems that my account is locked in with this bug that's not a bug.
I made a 2024 wizard, 2024 human, and in Spells in character builder I added Absorb Elements, Alarm, Burning Hands, Catapult, Cause Fear and Charm Person.
On the character sheet I went into the Spells section and Manage Spells. In the sidebar I click Spellbook. I click Learn button for Absorb Elements, Alarm, Burning Hands, and Catapult. If I then click Delete next to any of these, they are unprepared and I can "learn" them again.
If from Manage Spells I got to Prepared Spells and see my prepared spells, Absorb Elements, Alarm, Burning Hands, Catapult. They have "delete" next to them. If I click Delete next to Absorb Elements it disappears from this list and is no longer prepared. If I then go back to Manage Spells > Spellbook, I can see Absorb Elements there and can click Learn again. If I went back to Manage Spells > Prepared Spells it is listed there again.
This process has worked the exact same whether I use website or app (android), whether I use 2024 wizard or 2014 wizard, no matter what race/species and no matter what book the spells I choose are from - even if homebrew.
-
Since it's not possible for it to work so differently for you than it would for me - because we're using the same tool with the same code - I must only conclude you are not selecting things from the right place on the sheet. Like perhaps you are mistaking Prepared Spells for your Spellbook and so when a spell disappears you believe it is deleted from your Spellbook, even though it hasn't.

I think there's an issue of miscommunication here.
A Wizard can only Learn/Delete Cantrips. If you Learn a Cantrip, it goes into your list, and if you Delete a Cantrip, it gets removed. There is no spellbook Learn for Cantrips.
There is however a weirdness in the naming for spells 1st level and Above on the Spellbook tab, where it should say Prepare/Unprepare where it currently says Learn/Delete. So @SweetPoisons, can you confirm that if you click Delete on a 1st-9th level spell in your Prepared Spells, it remains in your list on the Spellbook tab.
If you expand any of the spells, the buttons are correctly labelled.
The process is:
Add Spells -> Click Learn on a spell to add it to your spellbook. Any Cantrips that you learn are automatically Prepared. Click Delete to remove that spell from your repertoire.
Spellbook -> Click Learn (which should be Prepare), and the main button changes to Delete (which should be Prepared). If you expand the spell listing, it reads correctly. Click Delete (which should be Prepared) to unprepare the spell, and the button returns to Learn (which should be Prepare). Inside the spell listing the Prepared and Delete buttons are correctly labelled and either prepare the spell or remove it from your spellbook.
Prepared Spells -> Click Delete (which should be Unprepare or something) on a 1st-9th level spell to unprepare it. Click Delete to remove a Cantrip (which is accurate here, as you are unlearning it). If you expand the spell listing here, and click Delete be aware that this will delete it from your spellbook.
@spamandtuna there is definitely an issue with the text labelling here, as it's defaulting to the "Know all, prepare some" logic of most other caster classes, but the functionality is still working. I think that people looking at this with experience are just mentally glossing over the labels, because the button pushes do what they expect.
Lol, I revived this thread and then of course immediately forgot about it. @Cyb3rM1nd, thank you for the advice - it worked for me, too. Just very strange that this happened one day, when I hadn't even made any character changes since the last session where it looked normal, and my other caster's sheet still displays the correct Prepare/Unprepare language. 😫

Seems to work fine for me. In what way is the prepared function not working, exactly?

Are you using a homebrew wizard subclass?
Works fine for me.

If some homebrew custom Feats would affect it, then yes. However, it had been working with them on.

Maybe they'll get back, doubt it, but who knows.
Good luck out there.
Did you happen to add any homebrew feats/spells?

Thanks for the instructions, its working exactly as you suggested.
Pickle me grateful but annoyed, preparing spells as a function just feels broken, if it's in this script, I hope the code will get addressed.
Thanks again!
