I've been having trouble with equipping certain items in D&D Beyond, but I haven't been able to work out why. I believe it's a bug, but it could be items that are incorrectly added to the database, or any number of other reasons. I shall post it here, since I haven't been able to find any other threads that say about problems like this...
I have added "Robes" to my characters inventory, and proceeded to attempt to equip them, however, the toggle to equip is not there (unlike the quarterstaff which had a toggle next to it). When I added "Scale Mail", however, the toggle was there and I was able to equip and remove it.
I have added a screenshot in to better explain this. The top of the image shows the robes, from the database, without a toggle. The bottom is the scale mail, also from the database, with a toggle.
I believe is by design. The equip button is for weapons and armor (probably some others) to change stats on the character sheet or add actions such as attacks. Because robes or rope and such don't do anything to the character sheet, they don't have an equip button.
Is there something you would expect equipping them to do? You could offer it as feedback.
I think I just expected it to let me equip it, even if it had no impact, since it would be equipped to my character. I'm possibly seeing this too much as an equipment monitoring system than a character sheet system. It also stops me from constantly thinking my character is naked, which is how I've been thinking ever since I noticed this. lol
Apart from that slight peace-of-mind thing, there isn't really much.
Thank you for the response, though. Explains why I couldn't equip.
Maybe after DDB adds containers to inventory, one of the containers can be "worn" or "on person." That would solve the issue without adding an unnecessary toggle.
You can customise the item to add in the notes box things like "on person" or "in bag" - the notes info will display on your character sheet.

Sorry for the delay in reply.

The item entries for mundane equipment in the database are really limited, pretty much to a name, description and whether they are part of a bundle.
Mundane items don't have stats or benefits and can't be equipped.
This may be something that changes in the future, especially as the official publications introduce more mundane items.
