I am building a kensai and wished to take the musket as my kensai ranged weapon. The musket is in Beyond under equipment (it's from the DMG), and it meets the prerequisite for proficiency for the kensai weapon. And yet I cannot find a way to choose the musket as my kensai weapon through the Beyond character builder. Am I missing something? It doesn't seem like I should have to modify a class just to use something rules-as-written. Is there something my DM on Beyond could do to open up the option to take the musket as kensai weapon?

Surely that must be it, since there are no exotic weapons in this edition. It's either a simple or martial weapon, and since it's neither by default, there's no way to include it on that list.

Hi there,
having just re-read through the Kensei features, I concur with you that it seems that most firearms should qualify to be selected as kensei weapons.
I'll raise this with the team.

Could it be that firearms are neither simple or martial and are in their own separate category?

Am I correct in that this issue has not yet been dealt with?

Please allow pistols and muskets as kensei weapons on dndbeyond, it should be an option per the rules.
