Currently, there is not a 'view only' version of the character page. If we allowed anyone to access it, they'd be able to edit it. That is why we currently limit access to a character to either the person that created it or a DM of a campaign that character is in.
We will be adding a view only version of the page in the near future so you can share it with others.

Can there ever be a way to give multiple people the ability to edit a character sheet? As it is I have a mix of players that would make my games ungainly if the more experience players couldn't help the less experienced players with their sheets and interpreting their numbers, view and edit are basic permissions most of the similar online tools have
Soo... as a DM, am I allowed to prepare a character for a player?
It would be vastly more useful when bringing on brand new players to be able to send them a fully formed character, rather than have to sit with them and click all the options to create the character in their account. New people want to get playing, not fuss with websites.
Granted I can just ignore D&D Beyond and hand them a paper, but it would be nice to set up the new guy in such a way that if he wants to really dive in, his character is there waiting for him in D&DB to use as the campaign progresses.

Not yet, last I checked.

What I've done is have players in my campaign start a character in their account through the link. Once it's started, and a part of the campaign I as DM can edit it. I think all it needs is a name. Not even a race or class.

This is a great idea thanks! It would be even easier if DMs could send characters to players first.
As easy as the character creator is, many players would rather be able to skip it altogether and just start playing.
Is there any way to send people a character sheet? I started playing this as a tabletop game, but one of the players moved into a different state so we're about to switch to playing online. As the DM I have all of the character sheets. Is there any way for me to create their characters on this and send them across, or do I have to guide them through copying things over?

The closest thing you can do at this time is send a pdf to that new player. When tabletop management becomes active you'll be able to assign characters but that's still a ways off.

Has there been any progress on this feature? I am the owner of the dndbeyond subscription, but another of my players is taking over DM responsibility. Is there a way to allow him to view the character sheets of my other players?

Well, for one thing, you don't have to be DMing a campaign to activate sharing, so you could have him make a new campaign, have your group shuffle a few things around, and activate sharing in his campaign. He'd be able to see the players' character sheets, and content sharing would be active.

Any status updates on this feature? I've pre-made a bunch of characters for a group of new players, and I'd love to be able to send them the different options to look at and pick from....Then, ultimately transfer the character from my account, to theirs. That would be perfect.
Hey, just to chime in on this thread (sorry to necro)
Could you just give us a 'share with everyone in my campaign' checkbox or button that, UPON ACTIVATION WITH A STANDARD CLICK ACTION, will say 'hey, you realize that everybody in your campaign can edit this character, right?' and then if you agree just let's them see and edit it?
Because we have a deal in my campaign where the DM is the gm but I'm sort of the secretary for the party and I think it could be cool to edit people's pages with notes about what happened to them in the last session (that they might have forgotten in some cases). Plus I know these dudes and I know where they live so if they steal my silver or whatever, I can spritz them with a bottle of 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water. Which they Do Not Like.
They'll learn.
Also, confidentially between you and me, they can't be trusted to update their XP, and I'm not interested in dying to another flock of Stirges just because the wizard forgot he has a new Aoe spell now.
If I post a link to my character--like this one--shouldn't people who click on the link be able to see the character (and not hit a 404 error)?

Bump this up, this makes it very confusing.

Thank you, Hartless.

I guess what I'm asking for is a special sendable link that copies the character into the recipients account (after asking permission of course).

Bumping this as I'd really like to be able to create characters for new players and send it to them.
How is this not implemented yet? It should be easy enough, should it not?
I would love this feature to be implemented !
I would love to be able to share my PC sheets easily with my DMs from my PbP campaigns that do not use DnD Beyond to technically run their campaign :)

You can, just create an unassigned character, and then have them come in and "claim it"
