Use the same campaign link you gave your players. You can select from your previously created characters and add them to the campaign. Then unassign them when you are in the campaign. No need to recreate them.
I can confirm that Tophloph's instructions work. I did this with characters in my campaign; simply used the same campaign link, added the ones I wanted, and un-claimed them.
Still would be nice to have the "View Only" feature this thread was based on, in order to share with others.
lol not to be a stick-in-the-mud or curmudgeonly about it...but can we get an actual ETA on this? I LOVE the layout you guys have here, and I'd like to post up "What do you think?" style posts for others to look at it in that same format! Or, "Wow, barely survived the last encounter!"
Should be able to have a "Snapshots" archive where you can save view-only templates of what your character sheet at that time looks like, but make it interactive still insofar as navigating spell books or inventory. This should not be hard, in theory. Just save a string of variables, and when you load a snapshot just load the variables into a non-saving form. P...please?
So I was using a friends account for 1 of my characters since I didn't have the books he has. I've recently bought them finally but I wanted to know if there was a way to transfer that char from his account into mine I really don't wanna have to try and remake the whole thing from scratch
almost the same answer as the one four posts above.
From the old account go to the campaign page and unassign the character. Then log in with the new account and use the campaign join link. That page will show the unassigned character available to join the campaign with.
So I can build a character for someone else and they can use that build and edit it as their own? Also, if I delete it on my account, will they still have it on theirs?

No, the share link is to share a character for others to view.
You can create a character inside of a campaign, and then "Unassign" it. Anyone using the join link for the campaign can claim an Unassigned character, taking it for themselves. You will no longer own that character.
I currently have 3 players who I have made character sheets for. 2 of them have the "Share" option, however one of them doesn't, the button just isn't there.
Is there any real explanation for this or is this a bug?
It is really making things confusing at the beginning of each session.
Any word on this feature being completed?
Bump
Nearly a year later, how close is "near future"?
I would really like to be able to assign characters I created in my DM account to players in my campaign.
But I can't seem to let them take them, only create new characters in the campaign...
Its normal for me to create new characters for newbie players with their help, them turn them over to start using.....
Thanks in advance for any updates.
on your campaign page, click on the "create unassigned character". Once you have completed the character, alert your player and have them claim it.

Thanks. I guess that makes sense going forward.
We had already created a bunch of characters in my account when it was a basic / free account. Then I upgrade to the DM Master account.
Was hoping I could now give the users these characters to use on their own.
So it looks like I can create new characters (or re-created these existing in the campaign and transfer them)
I just can't use pre-existing characters.
Thanks.

Yes, this worked finally!!
Thanks so much for posting this multiple times.
The first time I tried it I could only see one Character from my own DM options.
Maybe an eventual consistency issue?
Don't know but my players now have access so great stuff!
Thanks everyone!

This is literally a year late, but I'm sort of new to the site. Is this a reality yet?
Yes. Use the "Share Link" option on the character sheet.

How does a person do this? We're trying to do this and it's working.
Celtic music and culture enthusiast. "Amhran Deas" (pronounced Ow-ron dyass) means "Pretty Song".
A couple of different things have been discussed in this thread. What, precisely are you trying to do that is (presumably) not working?

There is a privacy setting on character sheets. With your character set to private, you can't share it.
