Question: I kind of just put 2+2 together while trying to figure out why I was having so much trouble looking up my abilities on my mobile devices. Are the Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron versions of classes and races being fazed out/becoming inaccessible on D&D Beyond? And if so, is there a place one could reference the classes and races from the previous version of source material?
Rant: Not trying to get anything out of this but I'm currently in the middle of a campaign where I'm trying to use D&D Beyond to manage a changeling warlock/fighter with the mark of finding (house rules) but am having even more trouble referencing my abilities, like Imprint Prey and Unsettling Visage, than usual and it's becoming increasingly unmanageable. I know it comes with caveats, both when making purchases through D&D Beyond and actually purchasing Wayfinder's Guide, but it would be nice to have access to the content I intended to pay for and have been using instead of being linked to information I'm not currently using and didn't pay for. It's not that I don't like free stuff, but it's a little different when I pay for specific content then get linked to different "comparable" content in lieu. Like, when there is the ability to make both sets of information available/accessible, I get frustrated and it makes me think about buying/acquiring physical versions of source material while personally being mindful of errata instead of purchasing electronic source material that has the potential to be retconned mid campaign. Admittedly I'm not about to loose my goo and go repurchase physical versions of all the content I own just because of one situation, but it does make me hesitant on making new online purchases and using this service to manage my characters with house rules in play.
If the character in question was created before Rising was released, and if you didn’t change class, race, etc. After the release of Rising, the character sheet should still function correctly for the original pieces.
The mechanical elements of Wayfinders were playtest material, which as you acknowledge above, was clearly specified in the info on the marketplace and in the introduction of Wayfinders itself. In accordance with their licensing agreement with Wizards of the Coast, DDB archives playtest material when 1)updated versions are published or 2)Wizards deems it “out of date.” Characters with those “archived” elements will continue to function, but no new characters can be made with them. What was different about Wayfinders was that for the first time, people were asked to pay for material that was playtest. This was Wizard’s decision, not DDB’s. The intent always was that the content would be updated to finalized versions when the playtest period was over. Many people, unfortunately, missed that.
Note; the DMsGuild version/edition of Wayfinders has also been updated; like DDB, it no longer contains the playtest versions of things. The difference, of course, is that folks who bought there likely still have access to the playtest version pdf that they downloaded.
There was, however, no actual “print” version of Wayfinders. Print materials (like the PHB, GHosts of Saltmarsh, etc.) are not going to have this kind of thing happen to them here: those mechanics are already finalized and are no longer playtest.
What happened was the "wayfinder" versions of races and artificer were actually playtest that were also released in free UA articles. When you bought content from WGtE you were essentially prepaying for the final versions that would be printed later. It was mentioned in multiple places that WGtE would get updated and changed, but the way things turned out still upset a bunch of people (DDB is offering refunds for WGtE for this and WotC won't be doing it again).
WotC decided for us they didn't want us to have access to the original races from WGtE. You get to keep them on existing characters, but don't remove or try to change anything. Once you remove something its gone.
You can go into Homebrew and recreate the races for your personal use, but you can't share them. Someone was kind enough to do all the work, and managed to successfully share it for a day, before sharing was removed. It just like WotC removing access to older UA materials that made it into official books. You can no longer use it to create new characters. WotC forces us to either homebrew our own version oruse only the OFFICIAL version. It's like the WotC Character Builder of 4e where they forced what they wanted on the community
All I want is what I paid good money for without being forced to recreate what I once had through my own efforts. At the very least, let those of us who paid for WGtE share any homebrew copies of the original WGtE races. Even if the book is no longer AL legal, who cares. If we want AL legal, we'll use the crap they put into the new book. For our own campaigns let us use the versions we want.

Thank you for replying to my post with such pertinent info, and sorry if it sounds like I'm mad with D&D Beyond and the fine folks that work there. I'm not blaming Beyond for making the changes. The rant part was just me voicing my frustration at the situation this change caused during our last session, but I do really appreciate you addressing all my concerns. On top of giving me a starting point, noting that what I'm looking for could be out there in some form is super helpful on an emotional level (small weight lifted). Once I track an unedited copy down, I'll probably print the pages so I can acquire a physical copy.
The rant was because it was super hard last session trying to reference my abilities and double check them with the DM when my device was saying one thing and his was saying something different. Because of which, I wasn't really able to use things like the perks of the Imprint Pray feature when trying to track an important illithid in the sewers. Now that I know that changes HAVE been made, I can let my DM know and we can look for an old copy of source material to continue continuity, or decide to use the new rules. Basically there were too many unknowns to make any rulings so our game kind of had to stop (after it got away), but now that we have more information, we should be able to continue in some fashion.
Right now using D&D Beyond, I kind of have to use multiple characters because we are using "gestalt" character builds (multiclassing but every level we get some skill(s) from each class instead of one or the other). On top of how Beyond is currently set up (if you have 3 levels in warlock and 3 levels in fighter you are a level 6 character), the other players don't know I'm a Changeling and can see/read my device so I'm trying to track 3 builds (2 on a tablet and one on a phone). I made one character build as a Tiefling to track my Warlock levels, and to RP my Changeling's main form; Xenna, Warlock Primus, no racial bonuses. A 2nd as a half-orc to get the stats/traits for the mark of finding, to track my levels in fighter class, and RP my Divergent Persona/use as a disguise form, no other racial bonus. And a 3rd actual multiclass build to try making it easier to track the overall changeling character with all it's racial stats/traits and levels/abilities in warlock/fighter. It's currently not the easiest thing tracking this type of character on Beyond, and now it will be a bit harder to figure out how I want to build my character as they level up. Like as a Changeling Warlock with a Mark of Finding, when do I choose Devils Sight? My Tiefling and Hlaf-orc character builds both have darkvision as racial traits that I'm ignoring, but I'm not able to double check if the Mark of Finding in the version I'm using gives darkvision or just the updated one. If the rules I'm currently using bestow it too, I could pick something else until I reached a higher level and needed better darkvision. If not, I'd pick it sooner than later to help keep up the Tiefling/Half-orc mask (it might be suspicious if a creature who should have darkvision, doesn't). It's more questions like that and my character becoming increasingly convoluted with house rules in play that will make me not really able to use Beyond's tracking service. LIke I'm still going to use DDB for the more straightforward campaigns I DM, but I'm not sure I'll be able to continue to use it with my current character in this specific campaign or similar characters in it's current form.
Thank you again, ArwensDaughter, for replying with more than a basic canned response. This is just one reason why I'm not mad at DDB and continue to use their services :)
I was well aware this change was a possibility "...I know it comes with caveats, both when making purchases through D&D Beyond and actually purchasing Wayfinder's Guide...", so for me harping on WotC is pointless. For me, I just didn't know it was being changed yet and it caused some problems last session. While I am disappointed both sets of information aren't being made accessible (as variant versions) on DDB, there are still ways to get the information in question so it's not the end of the world. Once I get a physical copy of the information I'm looking for (already found someone with an unaltered PDF/will print the pages I need), I probably will attempt to try making a homebrew version for continued use on DDB.
New/Side Question: Are there any forum threads helping with more advanced homebrew creation yet? I'm alright with the basics, but there's still some stuff I have trouble making/scale correctly. If there are, I might just try homebrewing my entire Xenna character so I don't have to track everything in triplicate. That and I had been working on "The school of arcano-mechanics" for a different Eberron campaign, but had to stop because I didn't know how to generate some of the stats/abilities I was aiming for.
At least some of the material is fairly easily located in Wizard’s UA (Unearthed Arcana) archive. For example, this one on the races of Eberron. That may be easier to track down than an “original” version of Wayfinders from DMs guild.
There was just an announcement today (in the Announcements forum) that Badeye (project lead for DDB) has recreated some of the “original” Wayfinders mechanics as homebrew. It doesn’t include the changeling, but does include the various Warforged subraces (which disappeared entirely: Warforged is now a single race with no subraces), as well as the greater dragonmark feats and some magic items.

You can still find the UA articles on WotC's website: https://dnd.wizards.com/articles-tags/unearthed-arcana
