Not sure if this is a bug, probably more of an oversight. When you choose Thieves tools for your expertise as a rogue, that's not really evident anywhere that I have seen. If you choose a skill like perception it shows up in the skills list. But under the class feature section it doesn't show which two skills you have chosen. Nor under the proficiency section does it show your expertise.
Just hoping this can be made a bit more apparent when looking at the sheet.
I noticed the same problem, I couldn’t find the thieve’s tools expertise anywhere on the player’s sheet.
It would be nice if it could be displayed on the player’s sheet like it is for proficiencies.
Maybe the skills section could be updated to contain skills and tool proficiencies because both are used similarly. Also with Xanathar’s guide to everything they can also be combined.
I have a multiclass Rogue character I just created and noticed this as well. I think something like the Tools should likely be added to the Skills box of the character sheet as something that you roll and use in a very skills-like way. This would also allow the item to be more visible, show the EXP sign if you have expertise in the area, and use the rolling mechanics if you add a third party roller to your character page (or if/when the Beyond team add rolling of their own). Maybe separate it with a line from the rest of the actual Skills for clarity (and it should only display if you have purchased the toolset, really; or, at least, be grayed out if you have the proficiency but do not own the toolset).
Quick fix for you: Add a "Thieves' Tools" skill to your skill list (you can do this while viewing the sheet). You can add expertise to it, and it will appear on your skill list much more easily reference-able.
The problem with tools and thieves' tools in particular is that they do not associate with a particular ability score; that's always either a judgement call by the DM or request by the player based on the context of their use.
Also, expertise in thieves' tools is a complete outlier. Only a rogue can do it. Neither a bard or a human with Prodigy can apply expertise to a tool of any kind, it's a rogue-specific ability spelled out in the rogue's base class abilities.
So where would an ability for a single class be placed that was obvious? It's under Features & Traits, so it's not like it's not available to you somewhere, and it's not telling you a total bonus because it's only meant to add proficiency bonus twice without an ability bonus until the ability used with the tool in any particular situation is determined. So where would you have it be?

Has anyone heard if they are going to address this? I am just adding it to my Notes section and letting my DM know and keeping up with it manually.
Reality is for those that lack imagination...
I'm pretty certain that this is going to be resolved in the upcoming character sheet revamp.
It should be much easier to see proficiency (and expertise) with tools.

I also noticed this issue. Pretty big piece of the rogue missing there.
Still missing even with the new sheets.
