The interface for creating homebrew magic items is pretty complicated and is what the dev team put together, so that they could create the magic items in each of the books.
As such, it doesn't have the level of user interface and usability that we'd really expect right now.
For your +1 weapons, I suggest using the template of the appropriate +1 weapon to start with.

Do you know if they're planning on updating the system at some point?
EDIT ok very badly formatted above. You want to select Modifier Type as "Bonus" then subtype is "Magic" (because why use "Attack and Damage rolls") then fill in your value on the "Fixed Value"
Solved. Done know how to delete thread.
The right way to make a +1 weapon is with "Magic Bonus" in the modifiers of the item.

It has been mentioned that they want to do a full usability pass on the homebrew tools, but I don't know timescales.

I hope the either make tutorial videos that goes in detail on everything or give us more pop ups so we can read what everything does.
Tried making a magical hammer and used +1 Light hammer template, but still do not get the +1 bonus. Send help.
I take it this no longer applies?

I'm having the same issue. Used a +2 weapon as a base but it is only adding it to the attack roll on the sheet.
