I find it useless have a single entry for 1 coil of 50 foot rope. The moment I cut a piece from it, it's no longer 50 foot and there seems to be know way to shorten the length of it. So after I leave the goblin tied to a tree I have to either just remember that I've lost two feet from it, or just pretend that it magically grew back.
A lot of the weapons you collect can be customised, the ropes should have an option to change its length.
Except adding items under Personal Possessions don't take into account weight for encumbrance (unless I missed something). I-- too--- would love more customizable options for items, if possible.
Yeah I get that you can do it this way but it would be nice if there was a way to determine the length of rope and keep it in the regular inventory, the weight of items could also be customisable also to account for the reduced weight of a shortened rope.
I know the rope has always been 50 feet long at the start, but can you honestly say since the original D&D (or possibly before) you have never cut a length of rope from your 50 feet and annotated that in your equipment section of your character sheet that it's now 47 feet?
Perhaps enabling the quantity counter to be used for this kind of thing (like arrows), thus it could track a length of rope, so a 50 foot rope would have a quantity value of 50, should you cut that down to 45 feet the 'quantity' would be 45. That way you can have whatever length of rope you like.
This kind of counter would be useful for other things that have a certain number of uses, like healing kits and for stacking the same kinds of items (like all those thrown melee weapons).
Essentially if it doesn't have some kind of numerical tracking tied to it (or if it is just a single) the quantity factor could simply be greyed out or hidden

You can keep track of such things under Personal Possessions, which allows you to enter free text for the items to describe them.
The 50 ft length of rope has been a standard D&D item ever since the original basic set (and possibly before).
