At the moment, character creation is very ridged and follows the rules with no room for going outside the box. Sometimes in a campaign, the DM can grant extra proficiencies/feats/languages/ability points etc., when the rules wouldn't normally allow it, if a character spends time training. Can a section be added at the end of character creation that allows us to add these extra character building options that a DM might grant players over the course of a campaign. Part of what makes D&D great is that you're not absolutely bound to the rules like video games are.
I know there are ways around some of these like creating a homebrew item that would give the extra options, but I don't think workarounds should be accepted in place of a system that works by design.
