Oh, I'm sure they will add third party stuff based on the OGL.....except that no one sane is gonna publish anything 3rd party for them after 1.1 if the leak is any way accurate

Looks like a lot of people are now unsubscribing from DDB due to this OGL drama. Since they never added homebrew classes, I guess that's one less feature that could have kept me invested, and keeping me from leaving.
They wanted to slash and burn the OGL for third party publishers, think they actually ever wanted to add the homebrew feature? I highly doubt it it. I've canceled my subscription and am looking for a new game.
Yeah this whole OGL fiasco is pretty freaking embarrassing. I went ahead and unsubscribed. Its pretty funny looking back in this thread to when I first posted in 2020 about hoping they would add homebrew class functionality and there hasn't even been a pip of work put into it. DDB has a ton of cool features and its certainly less work than some of the other sites, but Wotc seems really intent on capitalizing on their recent record profits and cultural awareness by snatching defeat from the jaws of victory here. Just a genuine embarrassment.
Unsubbed about 6 months or so ago (before the OGL debacle which if I am not wrong has since been resolved). Have Just taken the free month offered.
So... still no homebrew classes and Wizards have not reached out/done a deal with the excellent 3rd party producers to get there content into the system? (Ya know, I don't think it is overly difficult to do this so all parties benefit).
It is not likely that sub will last long beyond the free month I guess....

They've not even managed to add spell points...
A basic rule from the DMG released in 2014. We're coming up on 9 years since then, and they've not been able to add ticky box for spells.
To be added it needs to be bought digitally, host it on DNDBeyond (adding zero effective overhead to the site) and make the deal around 10-20% of sale.
It's a no brainer. Increased sales for all concerned and customer friendly.
well there's more than that, you need to also consider the classes role in the party, is it a frontliner, a backstager or a suport or is more on the utillity side, might not be super complicated but its not something to be skipped over. but the big thing is the base features, while if your making a subclass to paladin, you might give a feature that gives a bonus to divine smite, when your making a class you need to create the equivalence of a divine smite feature and while IT might not be complicated, you need to make so many other features that touches that feature while also being balanced. not to mention but when you make a class, you usually create 2-4 subclasses for it. and while you might make a class that's not super complicated, its still a ton of work
I hope that the divisions into expert, priest, etc. will lay the groundwork for this.
So do we all.
But I suggest you don't hope too hard about it.
I also wish that they would start to add 3rd party content, like classes and equipment.
Based on the current OGL discussion it's VERY unlikely that will happen unfortunately.

Fair call
with using Avrae this is even more of a thing that we need.
At this point, we now have bigger issues than this site simply not allowing homebrew classes given the new ogl :( here goes the neighborhood…
Yep, there goes this topic...
Ironic... OGL says, "We'll take your money and your content, tyvm."
Homebrewers: Well, I was going to give it to you for free, but now that you're stealing it, screw you.
They're doing it so they don't have to employ as many developers for D&D.

But countjest... don't leave...Afterall, they've "won" too!

None of what you have brought up has been done but it’s unlikely they’d add content from non-official sources. Too much red tape.

I really don't see why.

Use one of the other online character sheets supported by Avrae.
Gsheet 2.1 supports custom classes to some extent and you can add anything you need beyond that.
It is one of the main reasons we don't use D&D Beyond for our party.
