I was looking for this on the forum but couldn't find it. Is there a way to make the point buy a value that can be set/varied instead of always 27? There are some games that I've been in where the DM has stated that they were giving us different point values for the point buy and it would be useful to be able to change that in the app.
That's what I'm currently doing for the game in question. I just figured that with the move for the app to be more friendly towards homebrew content, this could be a thing that could be implemented. I'm not sure the difficulty of the implementation since I don't know what the code looks like. It's no biggie to me if it gets done any time soon. I'm also not sure if anyone else is experiencing the same types of things or how much it may affect their games.
The reason for me to use Dndbeyond is to make things easier, but the "Ability scores" system is just a bad design. I found the best way to do this is to set "Ability scores" to manual and use this website to calculate the points for you.
Another easy way to do this would be to allow them to use point buy for the beginning then let them spend and add a custom feat to the character with the extra points.
Remember attributes over 14 (14 and 15 cost 2 points per point) that makes it possible to only count a few points.
It seems silly but it made it easier for me to be able to tell the number of points spent easily and i found it worth it to create the feat especailly since I could edit each feat for each character individually. with notes of the specific spend.
I agree this would be a nice feature. The suggested solutions (manual entry and using chicken dinner to calculate) certainly work, but it would be nice to have integrated.

Hi there Buzzlefett,
it isn't possible to do that on D&D Beyond.
Will it be available in the future? Maybe, but it's not something that's planned (that I know of).
The current ability score generation methods are the official ones from the Player's Handbook.
What I suggest for such situations is to use manual mode on D&D Beyond and calculate the points cost manually too.
