My suggestion would be as the Campaign Management Feature requests thread fills out, to start bucketing things out more, and have meaningful discussion around how important and how feature-rich each piece can get, then the internal team and discuss what is "feasible" and then put a poll forward with concrete, "If you choose this, this is what can be reasonable delivered". Better than polling maybe even consider investing in strategic priority and ranking tools. No need to re-invent the wheel, this is a well research area (even within the field of software development).

I'm actually supposed to be "off" today, so I'll only address #5.
We are completely confident and know exactly what is coming next - there exists no indecisiveness at all. I may be one of the most decisive people on the planet, and I can assure you I've already made decisions that will impact everything for months, if not years.
I have already shared what we are working on currently in several places. I'll reiterate it here:
Character builder/ sheet improvements (short term)
Native mobile app initial release with offline access (medium term)
Encounter building and monster progression (longer term)
New things for campaign management (longer term)
The fact that I'm not going to share dates for those things right now is not remotely a lack of confidence. I'm incredibly confident in our team and our ability to move quickly. The character builder didn't even exist (seriously, at all) three months ago.
I won't give dates because it's a terrible idea to do that in software/ web development. Google doesn't give dates. Heck, video game developers don't really give dates until they actually know. And even then, when Red Dead Redemption gets pushed, people complain and complain.
We're going to do "good" for the community, as I believe we have demonstrated through beta and launch. The fact that launch has "gone well" is going to help us make it a reality.
Thanks!
Thanks for the response. Seriously.
I hadn't seen that list of priorities, at least not that I can recall. FWIW (very little, I'm sure, which is cool), I can get behind that list. I'm not sure exactly what the character build/sheet changes are, but I know there are several things I keep hearing people request, so there's probably a correlation. The native mobile app definitely makes sense, and I'm really interested to see it. I wouldn't notice if pp 81-84 disappeared from the DMG, but if encounter builder is a prelude to a combat manager, then I'm totally in -- otherwise, that's probably the one thing on the list that I see as taking up space for "useful features". As much as I want a Campaign Manager (wiki style), it's way lower on my list than I would have thought, if I'm honest. I want it, don't get me wrong. I'd just rather have more home brew capabilities and a Combat Manager.
Sorry if I sound negative. I really, really want to be a booster for this tool. I'm just very frustrated, right now, that I can't actually use it for my game and see nothing on the list that gives me hope that I'll be able to do so. That's because my group is willing to play test stuff for WotC (Unearthed Arcana) and because we use a setting (Eberron) that I keep getting told needs no new material to be playable in 5E, but isn't.
I realize Campaign Management is a big and very loose as it's up to individual DM's and groups to figure out what works for them. But I feel that it essentially needs to be comprised of small systems.
You just directly hit on something that's been bugging me since the wishlist thread was opened up:
There's a difference between "campaign management tools" and a "Campaign Manager" tool.
"Campaign Manager" is something used to manage information about a campaign, where players can go to look things up and the DM can use to organize his notes. Essentially, it's a fancy, specialized wiki. It's a single tool, if fuzzy around the edges. Integration with other tools might be nice, but not necessary for it to be a Campaign Manager.
"Campaign management" is something a DM does and well exceeds the scope of what I would expect to be in a Campaign Manager. It would involve a whole suite of tools, which I'd group under the umbrella of "DM Tools" or "Game (Prep) Tools". I know it's a weird mismatch, but it's the only thing that makes sense, unless you want to call the entirety of DDB a "Campaign Manager", which is fine, but then we need another name for the wiki/Campaign Manager.
I find myself wanting something similar to atlassian confluence: documentation portal with collaboration features. You are already doing some of it: text markup (font, lists, formatting), inserting dynamic content and team spaces (campaign).
I think building on this would be ideal:
ability to create your own "documents" or pages and define content viability (permission: player or party vs dm info.)
tagging, mark up language (i see source code... could we drop straight HTML in here?)
formatting: inline images, table generation, table of contents, symbols, emojies, user mentions, status macros, galleries (it appears you have some of these already?)
wiki features: personal spaces for storing files, built-in version control, customizable templates, task assigning
add-in and plug ins (excel document viewing), anchor tags, simpler link generation (search, recently viewed, files, web links, etc.), dice roller, Loot, Inventory, NPC, Experience, Dice
collaboration: page, inline, and file commenting
permissions and permissions management (CRUD)
I will give you an example: in my game I am introducing a new player. I would like their character to be a surprise to group. In addition I would like them to help create some of the world they are joining. What is their backstory (what can be revealed now vs later)? Who are some NPC who they might personally know or have interacted with? Could they help create a place or location for the game? In addition I need to share what is happening in our world. I would need to hide them from the other players until the time is right, give them edit permissions to a page or pages, collaborate on ideas. This currently happens in email.
So I listed my campaign for my characters to join. This is what I would love to have available:
Encounter Builder to manage monster groups I would like to use for each game I fun. Having all monsters in one place that i would like to use would be AMAZING!
A campaign journal to direct players to, where I could write game recaps. This would help people remember all the complexities of my fantasy world.
An NPC journal for characters in my campaign, complete with a hidden DM's list of stats.
An NPC generator, that would allow me to create NPCs on the fly with bare necessary stats, stored to the NPC journal
A Virtual DM Screen. I know this one is a long shot, but it would be cool to have a tab that showed you everything you need in one window. If it was modifiable this would be GODLY.
Want to see Virtual Table Top like no other before it built within DnDBeyond.com? Upvote the feature request. It's 2nd highest voted so far:
NOTE: You will need to setup a zendesk account (which is not your DnDBeyond.com account, the team uses this 3rd party software). It's easy to do and your votes are needed!
Encounter Builder - With the ability to populate an encounter with monsters, traps, loot and descriptions.
Encounter Tracker - Track initiative, monster HP, monster status, and a brief monster stat block. The ability to auto-add experience to the party after it is done. Adds loot to the party loot when finished. Allow this to select an encounter from the builder or just to populate it with monsters on the fly.
Party Loot - Loot which is shared between the party and all can add things to/take things from their own inventory.
NPC Management - List of NPCs available for the campaign, and public information about them. Have stats available for the DM.
City Management - Allow the user to add cities / areas, containing prominant locations, brief descriptions of NPCs, and links to NPCs in the NPC management page.
Journal - A place where the party can describe each session, with hyperlinks to NPCs, cities, etc.
I think I have a some simple suggestions that would not require any kind of design overhaul to implement, but would be some baby steps towards all the functionality everyone is dreaming of.
1) Let DMs add characters they've made to a campaign. I mean, everything is there already! It's practically done! So the campaign could be full of characters players add, but also NPCs the DM adds. Eventually let them be labeled NPCs, etc, but I feel like there is literally some kind of little switch that could be flipped in the code to allow me to put my guys into my campaign. For my own selfish purposes I like to throw an NPC into my players' party, so it would really be nice to let the party see what their team looks like.
2) Players may view all NPCs as separate from the party, so let them be automatically sorted into characters the group puts into a campaign and characters the DM puts into a campaign. Just two would be fine! Mine and everyone else's! The campaign currently has a notepad style area for a description, then ones for DM notes, so it seems like it would be relatively simple to progress after allowing 1) to happen, 2) was making a second character area for NPCs.
3) Let DMs click a little checkbox next to info on NPC characters that keep the information hidden from players. DMs will want to keep certain NPC's loot and abilities secret, and if we are allowed to put NPC's into a campaign the easy answer is just don't put those NPC's in there at all. We can already do that. But let's say I want to put in a friendly character who will fight alongside everyone so they can see her strength and gear, but I don't want everyone to see what she's carrying. I check a little box to hide her inventory.
I know I know, there's probably a big 2.0 down the bend but I feel like this stuff could be in a 1.1 update and it would make the whole experience so much more robust.
I puttered around the campaign and character creators, and I've been reading everyone's wishlists here! So fun!
I LOVE the content sharing. I think it is going to be a blast for my group.

Just wanted to throw out there that I believe the DM can add a character. You just need to click the Campaign Link for your own campaign (Yes, it should be easier, but I believe it can be done)

In the campaign page, you have the link. Copy and paste that link in the browser, you will be redirected to the page where you can insert or create a character.
Ooooooh the sharing link. I see. Yes, considering that link is designed to be used by other people that seems a bit counter-intuitive. I did have to copy and paste as it isn't clickable for me. Thanks for holding my hand through that one.
I'd love to see some kind of town/city generation capability, manual entry and randomized for when you just want them to enter a small thorp or hamlet and don't really want to come up with every NPC (or even in particular with metropolis scale cities, where it's even more aggravating to get all the key figures nailed down unless you really like that kinda obsessive detail-oriented work like I do lol).
I know the 3.5 DMG and Pathfinder have some pretty awesome settlement generation rules, but even something a little more barebones than that would be fine. Nothing at all would seem incomplete to me considering how crucial population centers are, big and small, to most campaigns of Dungeons & Dragons.
Looking forward to the probable suite of tools that will likely get released over time:
encounter builder
combat tracker
loot generator...
... and distributor. Make it super easy to dump things into people's inventories & purses!
What I'd like to see in the nearest term, though, is pretty simple. Please provide a very simple blog interface that augments the basic notation feature. Yeah, I could stuff it all into the note, but I bet you could do some better UI things w/ a sortable / filterable list of "news updates", etc. DM could provide a running narrative summary of the campaign, might be fun to read back over once it's all complete.
Sorry if this has been mentioned already, but this weekend marked my first official full use of the service (as in all players had digital characters, etc.), so I haven't been following this thread as closely.
For the most part, I find it to be a great investment, but there was one thing that I think would be an easy addition would be to add certain important stats to the character blocks on the main campaign screen for easy reference. Right under the name, you could show the AC, Passive Perception, Initiative, and HP. Maybe all the Ability Scores too, but honestly as a DM, I don't need a quick reference to those as often.
Maybe not give the players that view, but the DM needs an at-a-glance summary of the characters for sure.
If a player makes a character in my campaign and then deletes it, they no longer can see the campaign and need to go and find the link again. Can we have it so that their account remembers that campaign even if they delete their character? It's a bit of a pain to go and find that link again, or to ask me for it.
I have Realmworks. It is quite a remarkable program. But, it is NOT for those who just want to organize notes. Realmworks, with your input, creates a graphical WIKI of your data. This is VERY cool but way beyond those who just want a way to organize their notes. I think Beyond can get it done with an outliner or PIM like structure(such as Keepnote for instance). I used a PIM for years before I got Realmworks. Like I said RW is NOT for everyone. A PIM structure would be a great start.
And REMEMBER - D&DB is web based. You can run a game from your phone! Any phone. Any tablet. Any PC. So a proper NOTES management system is NEEDED! What is up on D&DB now is barely a notepad. And needing a hosting service for pictures - come on?? (I didn't know about needing hosting till I read daplunk's post - thanks)
Curse, you should take this "Campaign Management" thing down and just say "coming soon" cause it's awful - it's actually an insult to me as a DM who takes a lot of notes. Especially considering the other great work you are doing. BTW I purchased the Legendary bundle and have a Master account. I am invested so I will speak my mind, with respect, and cast my vote. :-)

Peace.
