I just wanted to give some quick feedback on something that left a bad taste in my mouth.
I noticed earlier this year my yearly subscription was renewed... I noticed this from my bank statement.
Why does D&D beyond not send out a quick reminder email in advance of renewing a subscription? I expect a lot of people don't track things like this as well as they maybe should. I think it's kinda shitty to take money out of my account without any email at all. No even one after the fact "thanks for renewing".
I would expect a warning a week in advance "FYI your subscription is about to renew, thanks for being awesome and supporting us but if you do need to cancel click here:"
A lot of services don't send email reminders of renewals, it's actually more uncommon that they do, as it can get spammy. I have the following subscriptions and I've highlighted the ones in bold that notify me:
Spotify
Dollar Shave Club
Neflix
Roll20
Patreon*
D&D Beyond
Amazon Prime
* Patreon is kind of an exception because the amount varies each month, so it's actually more of an invoice
My point is that it's not the default and thus calling DDB shitty for not doing it seems a bit much. I might be a quality of life improvement for those that do less frequent subs, but might actually be a QoL reduction for those with more frequent sub dates. It's a balancing act.
Most places don't email you. This is because it results in a lot of emails (Amazon, for example, would be hundreds of thousands of e-mails) in one go which would be incredibly taxing on the servers and expensive.
Ultimately, it shouldn't be needed. After all, your finances are your responsibility. Computers, smartphones and even smart watches all have calender options for you to create your own alerts and reminders for when things are going to be paid. Which, really, you should be doing - it's up to you to keep track of your own money. If you can't then maybe don't go buying subs?

I agree with you all that most subscriptions don't warn you, but most are monthly. I am talking specifically about yearly ones, I think expecting a warning when the schedule is that much longer isn't unreasonable.

Sure, it's not unreasonable at all. Like Davedamon stated earlier though, it would be a quality of life improvement. Subscription renewal notices are not the norm, regardless of length. I also have a few yearly subscriptions - none of which notify me.
And my amazon prime is yearly and I do get a reminder, there's a specific option for it. Either way, I don't see your point, I'm saying something I would like and appreciate. Just because somewhere else doesn't send a warning doesn't stop dndbeyond from doing it.

The point is more in response to this:

It's not 'kinda shitty', it's actually kinda normal. Sure, it'd make things better, but it's not so common as to claim not doing it is shitty.

I was just saying auto renewal without notification is the common practice, so I wouldn't expect it from DDB or anyone else.
It is a good idea, and other subscriptions should do it. I forgot I even had PSN+ on at least 2 different occasions.
Tell me about it, I forget what I have going because I rely on sub models (they fit my budget better). I have a google calendar that has every subscription on it with a 24 reminder. I also use it when I make pre-orders to remind me, usually a week before, to actually check if I still want the thing.
My subscription renewal is coming up on the 6th of May. I am looking to see what card I used to set up the subscription and maybe change it out before the date. I can find neither a link or a page to do this on, nor a customer service link to send a message or inquiry.
Help! I don't want this to renew with certain cards. Can someone steer me in the right direction?

Yeah, managing your subscription details isn't easy to do on DDB.
Do note that sometimes replies can take some time. I'm not sure if billing inquiries are prioritized in any way. Considering how close it is to the 6th, you may be best off just canceling your subscription (you will keep your subscription benefits until the date the subscription was scheduled to end) and then starting a new one on the 6th with the specific card you want to use.

You also don't have to worry about losing any characters or content granted by the sub in the long run (some things will get locked in between, but not deleted). So once you've subbed with the right card, it will be like nothing happened.
The issue is this with autorenewal. It is YOU as the consumer that have to remember about such renewals, it has it clear as day within your subscription page when that is to be renewed. Also no place has to actually give you warning of such a renewal, specially if you pay via Paypal because you make that agreement then, and its actually within the ToS of such agreements that YOU as the subscriber must keep track of such renewals for the funds to be available.
However, that being said, I cancel such renewals just for that purpose so that I dont get caught out. Those get cancelled usually within days of making it, or I set a reminder and do so a couple of days before the renewal date if I cant tell by cancelling it its not going to cause issues.
It's much like your license and registration renewals, you often dont get notified about such and its upto you to remember when that happens.

I don't think I've ever had a subscription that didn't auto renew without warning me. PSN, loot crate, Amazon, Netflix, etc.
[Edit]Triple negative advisory: the above list does not send warnings. Sorry if I didn't not make that not clear.
Your Amazon and Netflix subs alert you? Weird, maybe I'm an exception or something

I was worried that sentence was confusing. It is a triple negative. What I listed auto renews without warning.

My PSN and loot crate subscriptions were annual.

The request for such is good feedback though! :D
