Instead of making a language choice, leave blank, go to sheet, under languages add custom. That's it.
If you're making a homebrew race then under languages try "You know Common and XYZ Language. D&D Beyond Note: Common will be added automatically, for XYZ please add this direct on the sheet under language - customise - add custom language."
Not ideal, but the person using the race shouldn't mind the 6-10 seconds it takes.
From D&D Beyond's point of view it will seem unnecessary and very low priority to design feature, get signed off, code feature, implement and bug test feature -- all for something people can do in a few seconds on the very rare instance they need to. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'd rather they fix broken things, personally.

Still not a thing, and still needs to be! I was surprised when I tried to make homebrew languages for my campaign just now and there wasn't any option for it.
This was mentioned earlier in the thread. This feature is SO low priority because all you have to do to pick a homebrew language as a racial one is leave the option blank and type in the additional proficiency in the sheet. It's so simple a child could do it in seconds.
Yeah, after reading through about how long everyone has waited for this feature. I actually though about how fast of a fix this would be.
Add it to homebrew creations > Custom language feature imports homebrew item I mean, we can import lots of other custom stuff already. Hopefully wizards one day looks over here cause this would be a very helpful feature that seems to have a lot of people asking for it. Also, if they put it behind the "premium" paywall then they make money off of it too. It's another perk of paying for a sub.
I mean, they now have custom backgrounds (and don't have ad-hoc backgrounds in 5.5e). That makes custom languages both more important and- easier to integrate!
It's a sad topic. It would seem such a simple function. And the answers "just add text manually" are very pleasing. As a master, I would really add manually for each desired subspecies, but ask each player to do it separately. I'll just ask them to write it down on a piece of paper.
No one (I hope) is talking about generating a written/spoken language in the vein of Quenya or Eldarin. I HOPE that we are simply talking about creating an on option for custom homebrew language options for the drop down menus to make use of for character creation. But after all this time DND Beyond just won't do it. Just one more thing for them to be ashamed of.
Okay, again, this is such a low priority for anyone sensible that it's a nonissue compared to actual bugs. You can enter custom languages in proficiencies. There's already a function which allows for this.
Is it really possible? How to do it? I can add an existing language to the race. Of course, I can write a custom language in the description table, but this will not add it to the block of languages.
So far, the only option I know is to add each character manually to the character sheet.

2023 and still not a thing lol
still a big nope
My RPG Campaigns
It would really be helpful!
Might be faster to get Kobold Press or Darrington Press to build a whole new tool. They seem motivated to get us stuff.
You know you can sorta do this already?

2024 and still not a thing! Really???
This needs to be a thing

I need this. I am creating a whole new plane that needs homebrew language (I.e: Void Speak)
Still not a Thing.
*sigh*
Bump. Still can't believe Forgotten Realms regional languages aren't even supported, at the very least.

This has to be the funniest thread i've ever found on the internet.

I thought I would chime in it's 2025.
