I just made a post in the Monster feedback thread about the MM Compendium having all of the "D" monsters on one page, resulting in a huge page with tons of data loading.
I then opened the "Adventuring Gear" section of the PHB and had the same reaction -- the entire Chapter 5, artwork and everything, loaded on one page. This is a HUGE problem for me. If I were mobile I would have just used a large bit of data on my plan loading one page, expecting something much smaller.
I think each section should have it's own page. "Adventuring Gear" should be separate from "Expenses" and so on. Loading entire chapters on 1 page just doesn't seem like a good idea to me. Maybe some sections can be combined, but entire chapters with all artwork is just too much.
Expanding on that, can we have an option to load pages w/out the artwork? Maybe a setting you set in your profile or when you open a compendium from a book that says "do not display images"? I think this could help with data plans on the user end for sure.
Also, the links look like they would take you to a single page. From the base of the PHB Compendium there are big headings with the Chapters and smaller ones with the sections. I wasn't expecting every page of the book to have its own page (that's way to tedious on you and not even remotely usable for a user, it's just as inconvenient as the physical book then), but I was expecting clicking "Adventuring Gear" to open a page with that section, not link to a page that contains an entire Chapter and jumps down to that section.
One last thing, I just wrote this entire post and posted it, and it never showed up. So I created it again, so I'm not sure if a duplicate will appear or not, but if so, keep the first one, it was more detailed and better thought out than this one :).
They could get around this with lazy loading of the page as you continue to scroll down or load the specific content once you click on the floating table of contents. I do like the idea of having the option to disable artwork, therefore keeping your data footprint rather low.
Yeah I can't wait for the app, in my opinion Apps are so much easier than mobile browsers so I'm really looking forward to it. But even sitting at my desktop at home, a page that large is annoying because if I want to use the slider/scroll on the right hand side of the screen it's so small because the page is so big, and if I move 2 cm it jumps up so far (would drive me nuts on my laptop, w/my desktop it's ok because my scroll wheel on the mouse).

One of the great things about the mobile app coming out is that it'll all be standalone. No online connection required. :)
We'll make sure staff sees your suggestion though!
