After a bit of advice from those who have been playing around with the home brew item creator / staff:
How do you add per day spells to an item?
For example, an Instrument of the Bards has several spells that can be cast once per day. Is there a way of configuring the item so that it works similar to the racial spell abilities (a Use button that resets after a long rest) that various races can use?
I do not currently have access to the DMG (my DM is slacking and hasn't set up the campaign yet), so cannot just base the instrument on an existing one.
Further to my last, my DM has setup the campaign now so I can see how the instruments of the bards (like the Cli Lyre) is implemented, and it is an imperfect solution.
The bardic instruments have several spells that can be cast once per day - 7 in the case of the Cli Lyre, however the way it has been implemented is to give the instrument 7 charges and state that each spell costs one charge. Without digging into the text, a player would not know they can only cast each spell once per day, and if the game day covers several real life sessions, there is no way in the character sheet to keep track of which spells you have cast from the instrument.
This is still unresolved. I propose a half-solution that shouldn't be too difficult to implement:
If the charges that an item has can be ticked and unticked in any order, instead of being crossed off from left to right, then players could keep track of which spells they have cast more easily. E.g. A player could click on the second box, leaving the first box uncrossed, to indicate that they have only used the second spell on the list (Cure Wounds).
Alternatively we could just house-rule that the instruments of the bards work like any other magic item with charges. But that gives them a lot more flexibility and makes them a lot more powerful.

How to add Tooltips
Hi there,
it's worth noting that, even with access to the Dungeon Master's Guide, you may not use items in there as a template.
Take a look at Wind Fan or Pipes of Haunting from the Basic Rules.
