I was wondering, as i have often redone some of my work and reuploaded them into the homebrew section. i realised that i needed to reupload the images of the homebrew with each new version of the monster. is that normal ?
one would think that reuploading the images per version of the content is probably taking a lot of space on ones server. so i was thiking that it was just a link to the image and that it was reused everytimes instead. but it seems the images need to be reuploaded everytime i click new version of my homebrew monsters. I love drawing stuff, though it takes me time, i love doing it. but having to reupload everytimes i make a new version even if just correcting typos, is something one can easily forgets. thus releasing a no image version which is just bad.
again, not sure if its by design or if its just a limitation of the entire thing. so... is it normal ?

If you're not publishing your homebrew, you should only need to add an image once, then edit the homebrew with revisions. It shouldn't be removing the image when you make that edit.
However, if you are publishing homebrew, when you select create new version, the new version will not have an image. This is because it copies the public version of the homebrew (what you published) and all public facing homebrew has images removed (for obvious reasons). As such, each new revision will require you to re-add the image before publishing. However, this may be a moot point as the image won't be visible to anyone but you.
I've ran into this problem myself a few times and as such have refrained from adding images to content I know I'm going to publish.
Which sucks blatantly though, considering how better a published content is when the people can actually see what the monster or item is about. about not publishing, of course it doesn'T remove the image, i meen, its not even published or anything and thus stays in edit mode all the time.
also, you say for obvious reasons, i don't get whats so obvious about not allowing any published content to be viewed by the public ? if you are talking about copyright issues... then thats not really your problem, it is the problem of the people who create the homebrew. but anyway, nothing there can be used if it resembles too much whats not allowed for us to homebrew, so i really don't see any argument here.
if images can be added, then why make it only private. that is bullshit to begin with. if its there, it should be there for everything. overall, to give us the ability is useless if its only for private use. i don't draw for myself i draw for others to see what i created.
but then again, i'm not sure i understand your point, as i have clearly seen lots of homebrew content with images that i can see. including my own that my friends could see. so yeah... i do think its just non-sense that the image needs to be reuploaded all the time. if its copying, it should also copy the image. afterall its a copy right ? to me its just a link anyway. there is no need to reupload an image that is already there.

There's no way to reliably automoderate images compared to text. As such, detecting copyright violating content, as well as purely inappropriate content, would require manual moderation and would be basically impossible. As such, they remove images from published, community facing content. This was mentioned when they moved over from the dark days of manual moderation to automoderation.
Way late to this topic but had a similar question. So any image created for the expressed purpose of attaching to home brewed items is only relevant for unpublished items? As soon as it's published it's stripped? My question was why isn't there a way to update published items with images without having to create a new version. I just want to add an image to what I've already published. The system seems a bit odd that any edits you might want to make from a small text edit, to image addition/replacement requires a whole new publication. Unless I just don't understand how the site is currently functioning.

When you edit something you create a new version of it. That's what version means: something that has been edited/changed/improved.
Images don't work for published stuff. Nobody but you can see the image for published homebrew even when added by others. You are certainly free to create a new version and don't publish it. You therefore keep an unpublished copy for private use.
If you want to just add an image for your own use: create new version, add images, don't share it. Done.

Welp, that's a total bummer, really wanted to put artwork with my items. As for edit vs. version, I understand what you're saying but taking out a word from a bio IMHO isn't a big enough alteration of an item to call it a "new" version of it. But that's semantics. Thanks for the replay, happy gaming!
