In the post by D&DBeyond earlier it was made known that this feature as mentioned in the side note in Tasha's is not getting official support. I find that this to be ridiculous as there are DMs who will not allow homebrew. I know it's in the book, but the fact you can't just click a box or just plainly select this on the character creator is a misstep in my opinion. It leaves a simple option unavailable to players without homebrew friendly DMs.
I agree. I was looking forward to TCoE, and one nig reason was that I am able to customize characters easily. Sadly, this is not implemented in character creation on DnDBeyond.
So please, dear folks here at DnDBeyond, make it happen!
You can already use the homebrew race tools to do precisely this.
I see no reason why the Devs should add a different way to do what you can already easily do. Seems counterproductive.
Just because it's a "homebrew tool" doesn't mean it's homebrew if what you create is using permitted rules.

There are DMs out there who won't see it that way, and won't let players use options that aren't basically presented to them in a formal manner. That's why there are many options in this book which WOTC have said are for that purpose.

Well just for starters, they're paid to do exactly that. I could easily print out character sheets, buy all the sourcebooks in physical form, and run my games without paying the developers here anything. However, they've offered a service to digitalize those sourcebooks and provide some additional tools to make running games easier.
If I have to sit there and manually manipulate features that are in official books when I'm paying for a service specifically so I don't have to, it changes the value proposition quite a bit. If I have to homebrew races, why not make me homebrew all the magic items? Or standard races? Or monsters, or or or... Where does it begin to be unacceptable for DDB to stop putting the source material into their service, and why does it begin there?
Honestly can't fathom why you would advocate for the developers of a web service to not do the job they literally are paid to do.
There's no reason they can't support custom lineages. It works just like the variant human, except you can give it a custom name without having to homebrew it.

Which is between you and the DM. It is not a reason enough for the Devs to re-do work because a few (and very few, in my experience) DMs are like that.
For everyone else in the world, we care more about what you do to make the character than what tools you use. The care is with what results. If I create something using the tools that is 100% official and compliant with all rules - then that should be fine.
Anyone saying you can't use tools to make your character shouldn't be allowing the D&D Beyond character builder/sheet either. That's also 'just a tool' and isn't the official paper character sheet made by WotC. The character sheet itself offers homebrewing aspects, overrides and customisations that are not official. It's just as much of a tool like the race builder is.If you have a DM unable to see the difference - then you need a new DM. Their stupidity irrational view is not D&D Beyond's problem.

You misunderstand.
The devs have already implemented this feature. It's the Race creator. You can use that. If you want to create a custom lineage YOU CAN. Just use the race creator to copy the race and edit it. The result is exactly the same.
I honestly can't fathom why you would advocate for the developers to do what they've already done.

So while I am disappointed that its not 'officially' in the creator, you can do this on the Character sheet without duping the race and modiying the stats:
Once you fully create your character just go to the appropriate stats and it will give you the option to either put in an override number or a modifier.. To allow ASIs and items to still affect, I would just give the appropriate stats a -1 or -2 and a +1 of +2.
I haven't had a chance to purchase Tasha's yet but are the CFVs working on the character sheets yet (I read that it may not be up on the release but it should be soon)? Would it work if I just purchase a single subclass (and would that then work on other classes)

I didn't understand, and looking over custom lineage, it makes sense why it isn't being offered official support, if only because the number of possible creature types is so wide. The rest of the parameters wouldn't be particularly hard to implement. I still maintain they haven't "already done it" but accept that it's not a useful expenditure of resources.

This is pretty much why I would be purchasing it
The creation options exist, but the lineage option does not.
Even though I agree that this should be supported normally (you support variant human, why not this?), if we have to use the homebrew race creation to do this, they should at the very least offer a template, so I don't have to spend time learning how to create the race from scratch. This is a big pain for what should be one of the most exciting features of the book.
Having never previously tried to Homebrew my own race, I must say that any claim that Homebrew creation = Tasha’s Custom Lineage is misleading in the extreme. The Custom Lineage option includes exactly 5 finite choices (size, ASI, Feat, Darkvision/skill, Language). Just the first page of Create Homebrew Race includes more choices than that (with open-ended options). I made it to the third screen before giving up. I’m hoping they’ll post a quick tutorial for those of us who just want to use Homebrew for Custom Lineage.
I'm disappointed their solution to implementing Custom Lineage was to ask people to resort to using their homebrew race tools... Yes there are many things to implement but this is a player option book that comes once every two years that people paid good money for, please do put in some effort to program in things as published.
As other posters have pointed out, its only 5-6 drop down fields to implement, and variant human has shown this is very much doable.
I think its very reasonable to expect this to be implemented. It doesn't have to be immediate as there are workarounds through the Homebrew race function, but it should be something in the pipeline.

DDB's homebrew creation tools suck, which kind of makes sense given that no one has to pay for them. On the other hand, people have paid for this book and for "digital toolset" support for what this book offers.
People would advocate for the developers to do what they've already done because 1) they did a bad job the first time around and 2) people are paying for it this time. How is that in the least bit unfathomable?
The issue you're seeing, Cybermind, is that DDB's homebrew editing tool is clunky, clumsy, obnoxious, annoying and difficult to use, extremely unintuitive, and overall just really bad. Only people who've put several dozen (or hundred, or thousand) hours into wrestling with it because they're already inveterate homebrew monkeys have any real understanding of how to get anything done in the homebrew tool. It is just about the most user-unfriendly piece of customer-facing software I've ever seen outside of Weird Business Stuff, and I can very much understand why people don't like the idea of being forced to learn how to use it to figure out an official, book-supported option. Especially when those of us who do know the tool know it'd take the folks at DDB all of fifteen minutes to implement a "Custom Lineage" species players can select, and then count on those players to use their fluff in the game themselves.
It's a baffling choice from DDB, and one I don't endorse even though I have absolutely zero intent of ever using the rule (since it sucks and should feel bad) and am perfectly capable of kludging together a species statblock myself for any 'Custom Lineage' my DM is willing to give me.

Agreed. Very disappointing and annoying. Not sure why I have to take the time to set this up for my players.
Especially if you have every race purchased. If I have to do this for anything I have made via homebrew that's fine.
