I made a mini game of sorts that went well so I thought I’d share it here.
Broadsides and boarders is a way to run a ship based thing. The players are officers on a ship and there is 5 places they can do stuff at, the helm, the gun deck, the engine room, the crows nest/sensor array, and the hull in general. I played it in a more technologically setting but you can adjust as needed.
players in the engine room can make an intelligent check to generate power, the ship can store up to 3 power things
a player in the helm can move the ship and direct power, power can give a boost to other areas besides the helm or engine room
a player in the crows nest/sensor area can make wisdom checks, if they go over ten half the amount they went over ten with and the gunner can add that to their attack rolls. The crows nest should also be used to tell the players about anything that happens on the board, ie ships entering the area or storms. If power is given to the area they get a +3 on the wisdom check
the gunner can make an attack roll when the ship is in range, they add their dex and the crow’s nest. They also roll damage dice if the ship hits. If power is given to the area they get a +2 to damage
A player in the hull can make a strength check to repair damage, if they go over ten half the amount they went over ten with and add that to the ships Hp.
If players aren’t in a room then the crew will make the check without any modifiers save for the helm and the engine room
Here is a sample ship
Fire bird AC 15 Hp 25 Cannons 1d6 Range 5 squares Speed 8 squares Ability smite cannon 2d10 Ram 1d8
the abilities cost 3 power to use and tend to be extremely powerful. Ram is when a ship moves through another ships space during it’s turn, ships that ram take 1d4 damage for raming.
here is a sample enemy ship stat
Enemy ship cruiser AC 13 Hp 15 Cannons 1d6 Speed 8 Squares
Overall it worked well for the one shot so I thought people might enjoy it, if you are interesting in helping me flesh out the mini game feel free to post stuff below.

I play a miriad of characters at the lord's rest inn
Two things are infinite: The universe, and human stupidity; and I'm not so sure about the universe.
