If you are within a private campaign hosted by a DM, your sheet is not private anymore. It's more like 'shared' and DM could lock (and unlock) sheet on demand imo. Players still can take their characters out of a campaign tho.
After COVID, majority of my players are pug ones found on internet foruns. Even if they were my irl friends, I'd need to either audit or lock their sheets while into a campaign.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
