I am just curious as to why we cant add basic gear items such as weapons and armor on this platform yet? I mean we can add the other homebrew we want with magic items, subclasses, spells, feats, and monsters. Yet for some reason it seems like they have put their foot down with adding homebrew mundane gear items. Like I want to add some sci-fi weapons ass homebrew but the only way to do that is to make it a magic item based of a weapon from their list, which doesn't let me change the damage die count or damage type even when I use the modifiers that are supposed to change those aspects. I mean I sort of understand why they don't let homebrew classes be added(not really since it would really be in the same format as adding subclasses currently), but mundane gear items really? I would just like to know why, cuz it seems a little silly to me that we can add all the broken ass magic items we want but adding a basic weapon or new armor type is just too much.
1. The homebrew system can't handle that amount and it is not yet built to fully support it. Imagine the complexity of creating your own weapon properties and such not even known in dnd.
2. It may be behind the websites paywall. Or it really can't fully support itself yet.
You can use custom actions and custom items to create a huge variety of things. You can use ad-hoc sheet customisations to put some effects into play.
Want a laser pistol that does 4d8 radiant and uses Int instead of Dex? You can make it. Want a sword that deals 3d10 slashing and uses Cha? Make it. Want to make crossbow bolt ammo that deals extra 2d6 lightning? You can make that. And so on. All right on your sheet, don't even need a separate tool/page.
I made a vid covering this in more detail, with examples. It's a bit long, but has chapters so you can easily skip to the parts more relevant for you.

The short answer is: because they haven't added support for it.
It isn't as simple as flipping a switch or even adding a whole category option. They would have to test and tweak to make it compatible with the character sheet. Adding new homebrew tools that can change the character sheet will be a big update because of all the things that could break.
Vehicles on the other hand should be less likely to break character sheets and I think they haven't added that simply because of how clunky and complicated vehicles are... Maybe after the homebrew UI is updated...

Can't you just edit basic gear in the character builder? I'm sure this feature exists. Does this not do what you need done?
