Hello, I'm fairly new to this site and so far it's an amazing tool for D&D. I've recently started playing as DM, and I've gotten a few of my friends to start their first campaign with me. After our last session, i decided they earned enough XP to level up. I gave one of my player characters 300 XP to get to second level. I made sure that everyone chose manual for their Hit Point Type, because i believe choosing the average, or rolling for you HP provides more fun than always taking the average. I was hoping to manage their characters getting to level 2 by myself. But, I am unsure as how to add maximum hitpoints to their characters. Does this have to be done on they player character's end? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.
When you are in the Character Builder (you can click on the hammer icon by HP, or go to the drop-down and choose Edit Character) you can go to the class page. Once a character chooses where to put their gained level (in the same class they have, or in an alternate once if multiclassing) you will know what their hit die is for rolling or taking the average. You can then choose on the top-right of the character builder to edit the hit points. Ensure you add only the rolled (or average) value, D&D Beyond will add the Constitution modifier for you.
