I couldn't find a thread on the subject; any word on when the app is due out? I primarily use my iPad Pro and phone; an off-line app/content is something I heard is coming. I posted a thread on a current iPad bug and one of the developers said its not high priority due to the app that is scheduled to come out.
If you are like me and your tablet/ipad is your most used DM tool I think you can see the benefit of having all these tools readily available and without needing to depend on a wifi connection.
This gets asked about a lot, but mostly buried in off topic threads.
The app will soon be available for alpha testing to those who preorder Xanathar's Guide. There is no real timeline for the full product, as that depends on how smoothly things go. But it is definitely coming and among the highest on the priority list.
I too understand the need for the offline version of the site. But I have to admit, I love that D&D Beyond was designed and coded to work well for mobile browsers. Cheers to the devs! I use Chrome on an iPhone and iPad and I can do everything I need to do.
But weirdly, our sacred place of gaming has no wifi and poor cell reception... reminds me of gaming there like we did in the 90s, ha.
I know the app has only recently been announced and that alpha access is limited, currently, to those who pre-order. Is there a way to volunteer or signup to help test without pre-ordering? My wife and I don’t yet have a group to play with regularly and don’t intend to buy the new book when it first releases, but would still like to help test the app.
Alpha access is restricted by hard app store limits on early access apps for number of users. The devs have said they're working on this but it's a standard ceiling.
At this point, you just need to wait. Stuff that you might find interesting to know though:
The app is largely being worked on by dedicated members of the team - this means they're not being delayed by any other coding going on.
The app will be released for iOS and Android, through the respective official stores.
There WILL be an Alpha test - this will occur after the app has been fully tested within the team and will be open to those who pre-ordered XGtE.
There has been no announcement about whether the Alpha test will have a public Beta test following it. I am sure that BadEye will talk about this more as we get closer to the time.

Do you happen to know if it'll end up on the Kindle store as well?
Please make it so that the mobile apps are usable in both portrait and landscape mode. I intend to use it with a keyboard case on the iPad Mini and the iPad Pro. Hopefully I'll be able to provide this feedback in the alpha with the pre-order of XGtE if the apps don't ship this way.
Native mobile apps are way-better than browsers. There are more things to touch/swipe/action on and more usability overall. This saves time and provides focus.

Good point. Judging by the little preview BadEye gave in the latest livestream it seems the app will be pretty nice in terms of viewing options (font size, plain text version, night-mode etc.) but this is something they did not touch upon.

I myself am very excited about the app, I am even thinking of getting a Chromebook that is capable of using android apps for my D&D on the go so to speak.

20 steps ahead of you - I got myself the Samsung Chromebook Plus 2 months ago with the app in mind. :D
I got a Chromebook Plus over the summer as well! I'm loving the portability, long-lasting battery, and overall functionality! Can't wait to see what the app looks like on it!
The alpha for the app will start before the end of this year. Users that are eligible for participating in the alpha will be notified once it's available.

I picked up an ASUS Chromebook Flip. I like the new Google one, but it's too expensive. The Flip is fantastic for its price.

My older Chromebook accesses the website just fine, and since I have Wi-Fi where we play... Happy camper!
Still looking forward to the app though, for my phone and tablet. 😁
Thank you! I missed this one!
Bump! Any status?
