Until we see new OGL, this statement means nothing. Except tone deafness of WoTC, their willingness to lie and their hatred for big and small competitors that use OGL who make better product than they ever can. Main issue (revoking OGL 1.0) remains unaddressed - “content already made” in legal language may be honest “we won’t touch your staff” or “what was published already is ok, we won’t ask you to remove it from the shelves, but please, pay us for every new copy of Wrath of Righteous game your sell or cease selling it” , second main issue stays (Darth Vader alterung deal whenever he wants), third main issue (theft of IP is as of now masqueraded by clever words, but depends completely on law language). Only thing they somewhat addressed is royalties.
But damage is done. They’ve lost trust of community, creators and 3PP publishers. And there is a lot so smokescreen words there. And it’s really impresdive how boldly they lie: “Our plan was always to solicit the input of our community before any update to the OGL; the drafts you’ve seen were attempting to do just that.”
Should they put drafts out for public discussion it could have been true. But those drafts were leaks. They were not put out by WoTC. And now they are literally contradicts reality. It’s kinda offensive of how stupid they think their customer base is.
And I don’t believe they won’t try to retaliate after this humiliation. Those who are at the helm now are not good people and if community resists, WoTC will strike back.
For a game that encourages people to embrace character death and new character creation, I don't really understand why so many people are so stuck on their sunk costs. Heath Robinson made a really good point in his live stream the other day, players don't have nearly as much sunk cost in the D&D as creators do.
If I was a creator & calling it quits with WotC, I'd go thru everything I've published for D&D, swap out the mechanics / IP references, and re-release my works for whatever new system(s) caught my eye. Not a fast task by any stretch, but better to change system with a updated version than to completely abandon the non-OGL / D&D-specific parts of previous efforts.

Hot take - This was to shift all the angst from ONED&D. With all the talk over OGL, OneD can fly in under the radar.
Or it's a blatant attempt at fan-baiting. Which I don't think is true but it wouldn't surprise me given that the "ApOlOgY" from today included THREE MENTIONS of how they just wanted to protect Hasbro/WOTC from racists.

It doesn't seem like a stretch to assume that if this OGL issue turns into 4th Ed (take 2), that the same thing we did during 4th would happen again, adding in a switch from DDB to Nexus, following Prophet Bradford to the Promised Land of Digital TTRPGs. <cue dramatic music & special effects>
Personally, I think that the way that WotC is handling this is VERY detrimental to the TTRPG community. I have already spoken to my players (seven in total who are all D&DB users) about whether we should ALL cancel our subscriptions. Our decision will be voted upon during our next gaming session in two weeks. We are all watching very closely to see if WotC does the right thing...but somehow, I doubt it.
I'm headed to Pazio with the new ORC license. That PR statement was really condescending and just felt like failed damage control. They should have just went with "We messed up big time, we're sorry. The only thing changing is we're making sure we can't change the OGL in the future." It would have gone over a lot better.

If you went to a therapist and showed them this responce they would say you need to cut the narcissist out of your life because there trying to gaslight you with obvious lies
I hate to tell WOTC but a post that has as its primary purpose to cover the ass of some idiot senior executives is not going to fly. This response is tepid at best. It includes several obvious lies the worst of which was "we never dreamed of stealing your stuff" when the language clearly indicated that was its exact purpose. They don't address the mutability of the license at all nor several other major concerns. This was half assed at best and completely inadequate. Short of shit canning a few senior executives I don't see WOTC ever regaining the good will of the community.

if you want to make your cancellations mean anything, you will do it now while the execs are looking at the subscription rates. in two weeks they will have made their decisions.
Ah, the weekend. Time to read up on other systems. Spent almost as money on them last night as I spent on DnD this year (meaning within the last 12 months). Before the leak that was meant to be spent here.
Right? Are they hoping we didn't hear about the content creators that were sent that OGL with a contract to sign and an implied ultimatum? that's not seeking feed back.

Incredibly tone deaf and insulting. The opposite of making things better.

Hey, worked out well then. Why not now?

Pretty much sums ups my thoughts on this...
And yeah, so girthy
Shit… with the popularity of D&D these days, they had Elven Accuracy extra advantage and still rolled a nat 1.

"we ALWAYS intended this discussion" - pure gaslighting
"we are putting out a new OGL to prevent racists and NFTs" - pure gaslighting - if THAT was the reason, why was there ANY royalty language???
we dont know what the final OGL will be, but we DO know they ARE gaslighting.
I’ll still play dnd it’s just this whole controversy has gone on and I feel like although dnd will survive it will not fully recover from it’s injures

This is already over, they are too Mammon deranged to realized they've destroyed themselves.
