In light of WOTC's response to the backlash from OGL 1.1, I am wondering if anyone is swayed to comeback or remain subscribbed to D&D Beyond. I will not be renewing my master subscription.
Already did. And went on a spending binge on Drivethroughrpg to support smaller creators & other systems. I'll be off playing them before I come back to DnD.
Already have, even with 3 campaigns incoming, this game is worth more than the money they want to steal from our wallets. As always this game can be played with paper and pencil, we never needed DND beyond.
I never considered canceling, none of these changes affect me directly and the website is still the most intuitive when it comes to creating characters and handling their sheets.
ya I get this. regardless of what is going on with OGL D&D Beyond is very useful and helps to streamline a very good game (D&D). Also none of the changes are going to really affect us as end users too much.
Their answer tells me they learned nothing and are simply going to try to find a different way to destroy their competitors. The blatant disrespect for their customers' intelligence says it all.

You don't need a subscription to use D&D Beyond. I plan to keep using the free version for my existing campaigns for now, but I won't be giving it any more money.
I cancelled my subscription. I'll gladly re-subscribe if and when they come out with a proper OGL and show some more honesty.
And I will be a lot less likely to spend money on anything in the future and depending on how they behave after this, I might transition away from D&D to some other system.
I don't see anything in their answer that would change anything. When a bully tells you he wants your lunch money and change tone when the whole school surround you, it doesn't mean his intent changed.

I Cancelled my Master Tier Subscription January 12th 2023 because of "OGL" 1.1
I already have. I'm covered through late March, so we'll see how WoTC/Hasbro acts for the next couple of months.
That said, I've already done the work to move one game over to PF2e in the near future, and to switch an upcoming campaign to either Pathfinder or Cypher, so I expect my need for the tools in D&D Beyond to only go down.
I'm keeping my subscription canceled. Saying "this wasn't our intention" when leaks and other evidence say otherwise is just offensive to the intelligence of the player base. Let's call it what it is - a stinky pile of lies.
WOTC didn't have to write OGL 1.0a. The law didn't require that they release the SRD. They weren't required to release the SRD for 5e. They deserve more credit than they are getting. Yes, OGL 1.1 was a huge step in the wrong direction. They've admitted to the misstep and are saying they will present something more acceptable to the community. Now the community should do their part of waiting to see what they come back with. If you want to try other games, good on you! I have a bookshelf loaded with other games. But I'm not going to throw away my 5e books or give up on One D&D because of this mistake. 4e was a mistake to many and we forgave them.
Something about this current era makes folks judge more harshly than is fair, view every action in the worst light and refuse forgiveness to the penitent.
I'll be honest. I am DMing a game for my son and his friends and they don't get how this whole OGL issue affects or should affect them.
I have cancelled my subscription, I can go totally pen and paper easy enough. If they release the OGL 2.0 with reasonable terms, then I'll renew for at least these reasons that are worth the $5/mo subscription: There may be better options and other things, and that's ok.
1. Integration with DND products I have purchased.
2. The ability to share purchased products with my players.
3. Character management and creation is simple and useful
I'm waiting until Monday, but yes I'm going to cancel.
Today's statement was arrogant garbage. I was really angry reading it here. But it's Friday, and I hope that a more official statement comes around Monday that convinces me they are serious about actually rewriting the OGL 2.0.
So it better be good. Because without the larger D&D community then 6e will be irrelevant to me and thus DNDB too.
They wrote OGL because they really needed something to come back from the brink. Which was a terrific idea. Besides, most of the people responsible for the OGL are not at WotC anymore. Honestly what I find the saddest here is seems that their creative teams were not even aware of that "wrong" move. Still, no change. I m not interested in their monetization plans anyway. 1.1 was just the last drop.
I already had and intend to remain canceled unless Hasbro/Wizards actually shows any real authenticity. The announcement seems like a load of disingenuous garbage, especially after seeing how terrible this company has been treating the Magic the Gathering franchise.
It will always be about money for them. Maybe if they do something radical like early adoption of the ORC instead of trying their own new OGL, that would push me to return. As of now, they killed a lot of my faith that they can do the right thing.
Fortunately the world of tabletop doesn’t need me to give them my money, even if I want to continue to play 5e. I already have all the books I need, and if anything else happens to come out, I can just find a pre-owned copy (and I am sure there are less scrupulous means to accessing digital resources in this day).
To anyone that was originally upset and is thinking about giving Wizards more money now that they have “apologized,” I hope that you rethink that decision. See if you can find alternative ways to access 5e content and digital resources if that’s the way you need things. Wait until Wizards actually shows they are trustworthy.
I'm with you in that I love DnD Beyond as a product. In a vacuum, it's well worth the money for the organizational support it provides and helps me play DnD despite being really busy. But... we're not in a vacuum. I know about DnD because of creators that use the original OGL, and I found my first game in fan forums for properties like Dim20 and CR. I love this game in part because of the vibrant community that surrounds it, and the proposed changes to the OGL were an insult and an attack on that community. Their latest statement takes almost no accountability and is filled with verifiable falsehoods. Barring major organizational change, WotC and DnDB have permanently lost my trust, and I don't want to give my money to an organization that I see as predatory.
Already cancelled my subscription and will boycott all WOTC and Hasbro products until they stop planning changes to the OGL.
It doesn't need to change. It's worked great for 22 years. It encourages healthy competition and great products. D&D Beyond was one of those products until very recently. It has also allowed more niche content to get created that simply would never exist otherwise.
The OGL has helped make the D&D community what it is today and revoking it will destroy that. Look at the damage that has already been done. This is poor conduct by Hasbro and WOTC. D&D has never been better than it is now and would have only got stronger as more people discover the VTT spaces that exist and our up-and-coming. They will have a hard time monopolising these spaces which is what it seems the new license is really about.

Yep. Cancelled. My groups are eager to switch to PF2e and Forbidden lands once their respective campaigns reach a natural point to stop.
Don't see us coming back anytime soon. This is just like when we dropped 4e years ago.

Cancelled this morning but am carried through the end of August. Will revisit closer to that time.
