Will the devs ever implement a system to display and maybe make Maps on? If so, they'd blow Roll20 out of the water! That's the only thing keeping them from being the perfect D&D tool. Am I right?
They're developing a VTT as we speak, to be released in 2024. We don't know what all the features will be, but certainly displaying maps will be one.

It will be.... once they update the Encounter Builder and fix the backlog of problems that still affect certain class abilities (e.g. Devotion Paladin Sacred Weapon, Clockwork Soul Clockwork Spell).

Pretty sure this D&D direct is mostly about the movie. They won’t want to muddy their messaging with other stuff just a few days before it opens.
You're absolutely right, although they do state on the announcement for the Direct that's coming 'Get a first look at the D&D Virtual Tabletop'.

You're welcome! I'm hoping they reveal more about how the functionality works with regards to previous purchases - character skins I can understand a price but I will not be happy if I have to buy the monsters from the Monster Manual AGAIN just to use them in the new VTT.

There's a trailer that will hopefully highlight more of how this new VTT will work coming out very soon.
