I’m curious if anyone knows yet, if the Site has talked about, how things will be organized with 5e Sources, Adventures, and Tools once the new edition is released? My hope would be that there would be either a new tab or drop down that separated out the two editions, and same for the character creator, but I’d prefer to be sure of that. I’m idly considering coming back into the game after a year and a half of just not playing, but I don’t want to spend more money on something that will effectively be gone in 2024 (I had all the material prior to mid 2021 (late?)). I’m assuming others don’t plan on just immediately jumping over and have the same concerns, so I’m wondering if that’s been addressed at all?
I don't think there's been any official statement. I may be wrong, and there may be a quote from the Content Creator's Contempt regarding how things will look, but I think other than DDB itself likely getting a revamp, there's been no "this is what your future will look like" guide yet.
My guess? Your 5e stuff will remain accessible as "legacy" content similar to how folks who owned VGtM and MToF still have access to them despite being delisted and superceded by MMM. I don't think we'll see tabbed interface of 5e and One DnD. Rather, I imagine the character builder and the encounter builder will have some sort of toggle to enable legacy content much like how we have toggles for CR and non-core content. That seems the simplest solution. But I don't believe anyone has anything official. Closest thing I've seen is the quote from I think Perkins saying people will be able to play 5e characters and OneD&D characters alongside each other at the same table. He didn't specify using D&D Beyond, but since they've sort of doubled down on the claims at least of backward compatibility, I'm guessing that includes usage on DDB. But again, this is all speculation.

I’m hopping that as they did with 5e and 4e they introduce a new updated website that includes the older materials and a new and more useful core utilizing the new rules with the older PHB DMG & MM listed as “legacy” ad a bundle of the new at a decent cost. It’s all supposed to be back compatible and that would be ideal.

That sounds horrible to me. If I’m understanding you right, that would destroy 5e’s ability to stand on its own, which is not something I or anyone that plans to wait or even pass on D&D One.
What they did was to leave the 4e website up for nearly 3 years by which point most folks had had either migrated to 5e or away from WOtC entirely. That was what I meant by mirroring that transition - leave this site up and running but open a new one that folks could transition to by choice keeping their purchases and homebrews but being able to use the new ( revised) core functionality of the new site. If you don’t want to move you don’t have to and as long as there are significant folks staying here it stays open ( but it probably wouldn’t get any updating) sorry about not being clear and scaring you.
This material is supposed to be cross-compatible and they're describing 1D&D as an extension of 5e, so I doubt they'll be taking the current books down altogether. Now, given what they did with VGtM and MToF, I'm less convinced they'll leave the old PHB, MM, and DMG up for purchase, but I don't think they'd nuke their playerbase by outright tossing all the current books.
I agree with others speculating that they’ll get a legacy tag. All along, they’ve been saying this isn’t a new edition. If they turn off your existing books, or open a whole new site, that would really fly in the face of the continuity and backwards compatibility they’ve been promising.
I'm pretty sure, but too lazy to google - that certainly for EU users they have to keep any digital content purchased available (at least in some form), which (I think) is why some content's still available as legacy. I don''t think that would necessarily include access to character creation though, but they have stated that it's all going to be back compatible.
Whilst I'm (very) critical of WOTC, I don't think it's an issue or going to be an issue for the forseeable future at least.
Edited for typo and more thinking. I'm gonna say it'd be a deeply onpopular move for WOTC to attempt restricting the tools currently available on DDB, but I do hope that they "pull their fingers out" and put some effort into supporting DDB better (at all).
Personally I’m hoping against all current content being labeled as “Legacy” since One D&D isn’t quite like 3.5 from my understanding. The visual tag is something I really dislike since I and others (a fair number I’ve seen, interestingly) have no interest in upgrading to the new edition for any number of reasons, and prefer to keep the two editions separate.
I doubt there will be two websites. So far as I'm aware (and if people know to the contrary, I'd love to hear about it), 4e and 5e were always intended to be separate editions, it made sense to have different websites in the same way it makes sense to have Pathfinder separate (beyond different publishers). 1D&D is still 5e, but with quite a bit of sprucing up. It makes little sense to duplicate the website.
Yes, I agree, the core rules will have a legacy type tag and treatment, although I'm less convinced they won't be for sale, at least straightaway. I daresay it won't say "Legacy", but perhaps 5e, and 1D&D will have "5.5" (or rather, whatever name they end up going with).

That’s possible and may be what happens. I’m drawing a couple of different threads together in my idea: 1) no real development work has been on this site in over a year - so where has it been done? 2) the homebrew engine has pretty well reached its end of the line given the backbone it’s based on - to improve it you need a whole new backbone - where is it? 3) what we have seen in the UAs is not compatible with the present character creation system but many folk are happy with 5e as is and don’t want to use the UA ( or whatever it becomes in the revision) - how can WOtC please both groups? 4) if they are expanding homebrew and character creation engines (and backbones) then, to please everyone, what we have created so far should be accessible in the old AND THE NEW. 5) there were 2 websites for 3 years with 4e and 5e - might not have been the same company but it seems to have worked and it would provide a solution to all these pieces.
As with what the classes and subclasses of 5eR will actually look like, what will happen with the website(s) is an unknown and we are all flailing in the dark this seems like a decent solution - so of course they won’t do it 😁
What they did was to leave the 4e website up for nearly 3 years by which point most folks had had either migrated to 5e or away from WOtC entirely.
Way more than 3 years, the 4e stuff remained up until it died due to technical limitations (2019?).
As for expectations of the site: 'One D&D' is officially the revised core books for 5e, so I expect all defaults to point to it. However, I would not be surprised if they leave up the old books in some legacy format.
Exactly. They're not gonna burn that bridge, especially since they're still probably smarting fiscally from the OGL mess. They'll probably stop selling the old core three, but I doubt they'll take anything else off the market or make anything inaccessible.

1 - they're still working on the new framework for 1D&D. That's going to be true whether they're using DDB or a separate website. They've had issues with keeping the site up-to-date since before 1D&D was a twinkle in WotC's eye.
2 - This is a complaint about the lack of development on DDB. This isn't going to be any different regardless of what site they're using. They're focussing on 1D&D and weren't particularly bothered about keeping DDB up-to-date as it was before 1D&D.
3 - 1D&D works perfectly fine with the 5e process. So long as they introduce custom backgrounds for on-the-fly creation (IE part of the character creation process, not just the homebrew section), it's fine. The other issues like subclass progression levels are solved problems. Compatibility will be fine.
4 - Having old and new will be easier on a single website, like DDB, than trying to have entitlements synched across two. Yes, you'll need the entitlements on both because 5e materials, such as adventures are intended to be used with 1D&D rules.
5 - You've missed the key point - they were different editions with no intentions of cross-use. There was not much need to have 4e run on the same platform as 5e (beyond consumer convenience), and since they were done by different companies...there's just little reason to unite them. There is good reason to have 5e and 1D&D on the same platform - and little not to.

I would very much like to see some care and attention to DDB (in general) here - I'd really like to post a reaction pic of Bubbles saying "Decent" in reaction to a Homebrew Creator Tool, hell the toolset needs work in general. I've read a lot of speculation as to "why" the neglect, but this probably isn't the appropriate place for discussing it, but it'd be nice if this was a buzzing hub of activity and there's actual fun places I can go. This place just makes me feel like an old grog that has nothing nice to say, but... I'll focus my time on the fun places.
I’m happy to wait and see what happens. It may very well be that DDB undergoes a significant transformation with the coming of the revised 5e late next year and is the only site with the old PHB, DMG, & MM marked “legacy” (or the equivalent). It may be that that the (single) revised site has a new and (hopefully) improved core with better tools for character creation and homebrewing. But if that is true then all the folks that don’t want to migrate initially are going to be very annoyed and are likely to move on abandoning the new products and the old ( well sort of - no new purchases) I’m aware that the 4e and 5e sites were different companies making a shared site essentially impossible. I’m also enough of a programmer and web developer ( not much but enough) to know that the actual space for the sites on a server is generally not a problem, the addressing for 2 sites on a server is not a problem and having 2 sites read and write to a shared database on the server is not a problem. What is clear to me is that if the revisions are anything like the UA the present core is not going to work and a new core is going to be needed. Will that core be back compatible? No clue - if it is then a single site may well work. If it isn’t then you need 2 sites, especially if you are trying not to drive off a significant part of your customer base. Will it be 1 site or 2? None of us really know and all of us are guessing so for now your guess is as good as mine.
I'd speculate that DDB will be revamped to encourage new users to invest in OneD&D Content, as well as make pathways to the VTT's content when it eventually goes live. 5e won't be kept on a preservation, but will likely be accessed on the same site as 'legacy' content, because if you put the 2014 5e cohort on a preservation, you're missing the opportunity to entice them to buy One D&D content. Basically I can see DDB looking and functioning a bit differently, but the content people have access to or otherwise use on DDB will still be available.
