My suspicion is that the survey timing was triggered by "We haven't done one of these recently" rather than any specific thing happening behind the scenes.

I haven't really paid any attention (and don't have time to dig trying to check dates), but it wouldn't surprise me if they are posted on a regular schedule every X-months.
It was short because they didn't ask for feedback for a lot of things that changed. Many things that I thought needed adjustments weren't addressed in the survey at all.
A very targeted survey is not a bad survey. Based on how short it was for me, this was a survey to measure interest in and purchases of physical content. I buy a lot of digital content, on the website and from third parties. It pretty much came to an end when I said I do not purchase physical content. It was not a survey on satisfaction with the website, business direction, or 1D&D plans. I have done surveys on all three of those other things in the past. If your preferred survey is among that list, you will possibly have the ability to give your input eventually.
FWIW, I couldn't answer the questions about spending, because I couldn't possibly remember that accurately on the spot. Had I known before starting the survey that it would include such questions, I might have grabbed that info. before I began.
Also, I loved seeing Dark Sun show up so often in the possible answers.
I found it a little off in some parts. Like it would ask questions about previous editions. But then follow up questions would not specify if they meant products from previous editions or the current editions. And then there were a number of questions about prices and non-official or non-licensed sources of information. And then questions about budget and spending habits.
I got the distinct impression this survey was trying to gather how much people are willing to spend so they can price as high as possible while losing the least customers.
Something that surprised me was what was lacking in the lists of 5e products. No Adventurers Grid, and no Dungeon Tiles Reincarnated. It mentioned spell cards and creature cards, but the Tarokka deck wasn't listed. And half the time it wasn't specific about which Starter Set it was talking about. Missing the other book products like the cookbook or the Drizzt Visual Dictionary or other recently released D&D 5e licensed or 1st party books. However, I was surprised to see the very exclusive and limited Sapphire set on there.
Another odd thing was that it asked what I had purchased, what I had used, but not what I was looking to buy in the future out of what I didn't have. Almost like it was assumed that I wasn't at all interested in buying anything I didn't already have in 5e.
