Ok so I've been working on plans for a book I'm writing. This book is VERY heavily based on DnD. My main character is going to be a shifter (a snake shifter to be specific). Their dad would be the lycanthrope serpent and the mom would be the human. But I want it to be as accurate as possible! So could a human and lycanthrope make a human or should I change their origins?
"Shifters are sometimes called weretouched, as they are descendants of people who contracted full or partial lycanthropy"
Yes.

It's fantasy so you decide how it works. Mordenkainen Presents Monsters of the Multiverse states that Shifters are sometimes called "weretouched" because they are the descendants of people who contracted full or partial lycanthropy. It doesn't state how many generations separate the Shifter from their lycanthrope ancestor.
Btw, you're now probably going to owe WotC some of them royalties. Enjoy!

Lycanthropy is a curse right? I think most people forget that. So it wouldn't be inherited by birth, although Hollywood tends to do it for both werewolves and Vampires. But like Hollywood, this is also suspend disbelief so it is possible.

While it's commonly a curse, it isn't always.
And while we're on the subject, it should really be called theranthropy, not lycanthropy. "Lycan" comes from "lycos", the Greek word for wolf, while "thropy" is derived from "ánthropos", Greek for "human". That means that "lycanthropy" properly only refers to werewolves, while "theranthropy" would properly refer to any type of were-animal.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

I thought you would get a chuckle to know I spent a few seconds searching for the definition of "theran" before it clicked and I realized my error.

In D&D lore, lycanthropy is a curse that can be contracted in one of three ways:
Infected - You were bitten by a "true" lycanthrope. This can typically be cured with a Remove Curse spell.
Induced - You were affected by a magic item, bestowing the curse upon you. Also can typically be cured with a Remove Curse spell.
True - You inherited the curse from your parents, both of whom were true lycanthropes. This curse can not be removed with anything short of a Wish spell.
And while we're on the subject, it should really be called theranthropy, not lycanthropy. In D&D it is almost always a curse. And it is called Lycanthropy. Therianthropy is specific to humans and giants being infected with lycanthropy. But for True Lycanthropes (born with it) I believe it is considered a "trait" and not a curse.

Given that the shifter description says:
"Shifters are sometimes called weretouched, as they are descendants of people who contracted full or partial lycanthropy"
Yes.
