Game informer has a story about the art in the new PHB, and it includes what the cover looks like. Also, inside, looks like there’s art featuring the characters from the old animated show.
Looks like a more old style art, like something out of the 80s or something.

The subjects are supposed to be the adventuring party “Valor’s Call” which started out as 80’ action figures and then made an appearance in Witchlight.
I just read the magazine article. Looks like Aasimar are in the PHB. Along with expanded crafting rules (unclear if that just means XGtE or all new), descriptions for tool uses, an appendix about the multiverse. The writer also mentions 16 backgrounds, which has me curious compared to the playtest assumption that they would be custom by default. Maybe they’re just some examples to get people started?
DMG definitely has bastions and a lore glossary, and greyhawk map, as I said above. Overall of gives more concrete advice for building encounters and such.
MM has revised every creature’s stat block, different versions of monsters at different CR’s the example they gave was vampires, where there’s a lower and higher power version. Also some more high CR creatures on par with the tarrasque and ancient dragons — think a gelatinous cube that can swallow a town. And expanded NPC sections.
Per ScreenRant, the cover characters are Strongheart the Knight, Yolande the Elven Queen, Molliver, Mercion, and Elkhorn. I'm not familiar enough with my D&D history to recognize the names so hopefully someone here knows them.
I think all the characters save Yolande are members of a group called Valor's Call, who were most recently seen in Wild Beyond the Witchlight (and only mentioned on the Wiki in relation to the League of Malevolence, who they are constantly on the hunt for).
Yolande the Elven Queen is from Greyhawk, and I believe Chris and Jeremy mentioned (or at least implied) she was getting a named spell during their recent Fireside Chat. She's mentioned by name in the video at the very least.

They were action figures in the 80’s.
I think there was also a module or two around them back then. And as LaTia notes, they recently appeared in Witchlight.

Strongheart and Mercion were definitely action figures. Elkhorn might have been. I don't remember the other two names, but it was a couple of years ago.
To me it still looks very much in line with 5e's initial launch, which makes sense because they got the same artist, Taylor Jacobsen, from the 2014 PHB to do it. You can even trace elements in both covers but I'll spare a art mapping essay. I felt the previewed art was working hard, and working well, to indicate a continuity between 2014 and 2024. I still think I've seen that silver dragon art somewhere else in 5e.
I'm pretty sure special edition covers, besides the launch foil, has been mentioned but don't see any quotes on hand. It'd be a shame if they didn't. Wonder if they'll bring back Hydro 74 or go more with the soft touch covers they started to do with Tasha's or something totally different. I'm most likely waiting for a slipcase set anyway after seeing how folks actually play with it.
I do like how the armed characters on the new cover are doing a good job illustrating maximizing action economy through effective fighting styles. You got your shield and weapon, your two hander presumably magic weapon, you're two weapon style, narry a character with an empty off hand, though I do look forward to an off-handed manipulation while armed in the "use object" illustration. :)

In a different story, game informer found out the setting in the DMG will be greyhawk and will include a pull out map.
Cool.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
Looks nice!

Nice artwork so far i love it!
Yeah, it certainly has a look about it of the AD&D book covers
I really like it, can't wait to see if there are special edition covers too

Most of them. The wizard is a different wizard.

So as I understand it, the gold dragon is meant to be fighting with the party against the red dragon in the foreground. Pretty neat.
I love the dwarf with the viking helmet.
Does it mean Greyhawk will be unlocked in DM Guild?
The new cover has got a lot of "2nd Ed vibes". I guess because they are using the same style of colors.
The art with the 80’s cartoon characters is missing the thief. So either I missed her or she is using her cloak of invisibility, lol

Seeing the title of the book at the bottom is gonna take some getting used to (personally), but I think it works for seeing more of the art piece.

It's truly amazing. Congratulations to Tyler Jacobson for this achievement.
It has elements from both old and new styles into a single masterpiece.
