Why would I not allow it? I do not have an issue with it.
Would you also let a player use the first printing of Healing Spirit? The pre-errata version?
Any content Wizards made available via print or pixel is allowed at my table. That includes UA, pre-errata, and Plane Shift content. I also allow a few third party content that are closely affiliated or related to official content, like Dark Tides of Bilgewater and non-Wizards Critical Role stuff.
If 2014 and 2024 PCs can still play together, it is still just 5e. This is no different from players using sidekicks and NPC stat blocks. Adding a new character creation method alone is not enough to warrant a new edition, and this character creation method is not even that different from the old one.
But would you allow people to mix-and-match class features? Use old spells that have been revised? Maybe play the 2014 paladin with the multiple smites but allow 2024 subclasses and spells? Or take the old version of the Magic Initiate feat with a new background?

Please post the tales you have from Paladins triple-smiting :D
1st Turn: Bonus-Action cast a smite spell. 2nd Turn: Attack, land a hit, divine smite, bonus action smite spell.
Pair this with a Divination Wizard that rolled a 20 and I really want to hear what happens. >:D
Bonus Points if the enemy is vulnerable to radiant damage.
One thing I hate as a paladin player for my first character is the rule that divine smite is now a bonus but starting with a feat is cool. Rolling a NAT 20 and then divine smiting was awesome basically turning baddies into red mist

It’s a bonus action, but it triggers immediately after you hit, so you can still wait for the crit before you decide to smite.
