How will existing characters created in D&D Beyond convert to the new Core Rulebook's rules?
They won't, at least not automatically.
Good question, I was wondering that myself. An option to choose too would be appropriate I think. See what happens I guess?

I would guess:
If you don't purchase the new books / have them shared with you, your character sheet won't/can't change.
If you do get the new books, you could rebuild your character with the new options (class/species/background/subclass/etc). Talk to your DM to see if this is appropriate.
Under no circumstances would your character just "convert."

People expecting conversions are going to be very, very sad.
It's not to say you won't be able to rebuild a character for 2024, assuming you purchase the PHB on D&D Beyond as the 5.2 SRD won't be out until Feb 2025ish. That said, classes are fundamentally different. Weapon Masteries are a thing, features come on and offline at different levels, the standardization of subclasses at level 3 across the board, spells being different, Pacts are gone, etc.
The onus is going to be on the player to rebuild their character with the 2024 material, or to hodge podge the homebrew system for subclasses that aren't in 2024 yet.
I have already pre-ordered the new books. So based on what you all say, D&D Beyond will still retain the "old rules" so we can continue raising levels based on the old ways before the new rules get loaded into the system?

If you have the old books (and your DM is cool with you using what-will-probably-be-called "legacy" material), yes.
(At least for the foreseeable future, until they finally discontinue the old stuff or shut the site down, in like 10 years or something.)
I am guessing that there will come a time where there will be a new Basic Rules out, probably not until after SRD 5.2. How they will integrate that is the big question. Will they force things into that? Will they give us 2 separate character generation tools and if so, how will that mesh with Encounters, Campaigns, and Maps? The digital side is completely unknown. All the PHB stuff is just sparkly trinkets compared to how D&D Beyond will address everything.
I cannot imagine there will be a "conversion". More like, just make a new character using the 2024 rules/classes/subclasses and just level them to an equivalent level. Too many features and such have changed that it will be pretty hard to make a conversion.
Theyll likely just keep the 2024 and 2014 content labeled as such for as long as 5e is a thing.
It is looking like the worst choice is a dig/phy purchase from this site, you'd think it would be the best, not the worst! I am glad I have friends taking these gambles and not me.
I replaced all my classes with the 2024 versions and it worked OK, until I tried to update my spells. Now I can't even open up my character.
What was your build? I just made a full level 8, 2014 Paladin using only Legacy everything. Then I changed over to the 2024 versions and experienced no hiccups at all. Even when doing the spells, everything was extremely easy.

TO DEFEND: THIS IS THE PACT.
BUT WHEN LIFE LOSES ITS VALUE,
AND IS TAKEN FOR NAUGHT-
THEN THE PACT IS, TO AVENGE.
