Hi, I’m watching the 2024 Free Rules and I noticed that it contains only 4 species (Dwarf, Elf, Halfling and Human) and an alert ring started to ring in my head: this means that in the SRD 5.2 we will find only these species? I’m working on a homemade campaign setting and I’m waiting the SRD 5.2 for game rules and other stuff but it’s useless if it doesn’t contain all the basics species. and what about the dragons? Only 2 chromatic and 2 metallic?
It is also possible it would be more limited, though unlikely.
It is unlikely they will add in additional species and classes. It is a scaled back version, just as the 2014 was, and is very unlikely to include all the options.
It is important to note that the Free Rules (and the Basic rules) are not the same thing as the SRD. The SRD could be more limited, and feature fewer elements.

I think it's a fair deal - somewhat limited options for free, then charge for most. I mean, that's enough, when combined with the free Subclasses, to create, say, half a dozen different characters (I know there are a lot more permutations, 48 to be exact, but most aren't going to be interesting to any given player, I feel that anyone should be able to come up with at least six fully differentiated and appealing characters with the free options available). My experience is that a campaign lasts about two years...so that's enough to keep you going for twelve years. That's pretty good going for a "demo".
If people are going to be dishonest, then they'll be dishonest unless you make everything free - which isn't viable. I think enough character options are free for (honest) new players to be acceptable.

Idk. I basically pirated all my 3E materials to get into the game. But now I support the game because it was good, I want to support it, and I have a little money to throw at it. Because I was able to get into the game at a price I could afford ($0), I've become a 15 year veteran who has inspired many other players to invest into DND as well. Granted, we live in a world ruled by money, and business can't hand everything out for free. But getting started in a game like DND can be intimidating. Even with the simplified rules, it's still a lot of reading, and a lot of practice before you are confident handling the game. Then there's the matter of finding a group that actually wants to play a campaign with you and can be relied upon to show up on schedule and actually get through it. *shakes fists to the heavens* So many of my campaigns died by level 5!!
Perhaps if only 4 species were always the ones available for free, they could get away with it. But once you give the people something, then try to take it away, they get noisy. Then people start reverting to homebrew to make their fantasies come true, and Hasbro loses out. Plus, restricting the starter pack to just 4 species makes it a players world with no DMs. I'm not spending hundreds of dollars on materials I can't even own in order to run a campaign. And I'm sure that's going to be the consensus.
At present, the SRD and the free Basic Rules are nearly identical -- one has a nice table of contents, though.
The FBR have no dragons, but the SRD does. That's for 2014.

And you can get into the game for free and legally too. That's what the Free Rules are for. We don't live in a Communist society, so stuff has to make a profit. I'm sure some pirates will convert to paying (and they do), but I think the current set up is more than fair. Most "free tasters" provide content for maybe an hour or so - the free rules contain enough that, really, most people would never need to pay for stuff.
I'm not sure what you mean by spending hundreds of dollars on things you can't even own to run a campaign. Even for the full rules, they're about £100 for all three of the new ones on Amazon. If you want them on DDB, it's $90 for the collection. It's an expensive hobby if you want to really go for it to be sure, but you don't need to be spending hundreds of you don't want to.

As I have kept mentioning before, people need stop paying for D&D if they hesitate even a tiny bit to opening their wallet. D&D is free, and even the paid content can be used for free. Ask the D&D community for help, whether online or offline, to borrow books and access digital tools. It is free, completely legal, and you get to part of a community and make it stronger. It may take a little bit of time and wait for someone to drop a character into your campaign, but it really is not difficult to just type a sentence or two on your social media platform of choice asking for help.
Someone with better financial ability already paid for the content, so ask them for help. They fed the game makers so you do not have to.

It's already been said here, but you gotta remember that Free Rules and the SRD are built for two completely different crowds.
The Free Rules are meant to be an foundational way for people either new to D&D or who are unable to access books (borrowing from friend groups or other resources aside) to be able to jump right in and play. It's not impossible that someone fresh to the game might want to start building for profit right away, but I'd hope they do a little research first to figure out the way to do that that works for them.
We've also said previously that SRD 5.2 will be at the same scope as 5.1, and 5.1 is a freaking massive document. We don't intend to cut back, and we're still on target to deliver it when we said we would.

I currently understand the 5.1 SRD is a 402-3page document, and searching around have only been able to find a 180page basic rules document from 2018. The free rules of the site are larger than the current SRD 5.1, and that is because of the inclusion of smaller content that was at the time considered accessory material, EEPC SCAG and some other content that i couldn't pin down.
which if I understood the initial post means at some stage will there be a 5.2 SRD that is created that would be limited in scope as to the amount of content versus what is available vis 5.1SRD or will we have an 5.2SRD that is solely based on just a limited number of elements, as currently the 5.1SRD has 9 Races I believe.
And when again is the timeline on the release of said 5.2SRD as it had been announced that it would be shortly after the release of the 2024 Monster Manual, and the assumption is, given history, end of march or April I presume?
The page I linked says that "SRD 5.2 will provide revised rules at the same scope as 5.1". That to me, even without my Wizards hat on, reads as the documents will be equal in content.
And our wording as to SRD 5.2's release, also on that page is, "within weeks of Monster Manual's release". We don't have a current estimate as to how many weeks that's going to be, but we won't make the community wait long.

"Gotta pay to play" is the Hasbro way.
If you use the free version, you get the bare minimum. If you want it all, you gotta shell out some dough.
Anzio Faro. Protector Aasimar light cleric. Lvl 18.
Viktor Gavriil. White dragonborn grave cleric. Lvl 20.
Ikram Sahir ibn-Malik al-Sayyid Ra'ad. Brass dragonborn draconic sorcerer Lvl 9. Fire elemental devil.
Tayn of Darkwood. Human Life Cleric. Lvl 10.
I would say that's a probable outcome. So, yes.
