Maybe an optional supplement or something then. The time frame we're talking you could probably do an update in the time we had 2 or 3 complete new editions in the 2000's!
Yeah, I think it would be pretty cool to see a supplement that just had a big collection of interesting variants.
sorry, i kinda of find this funny in a way. Almost every edition (even 4th) thought theirs was just fine and we didn't need a new edition ( i sure thought it when i started with 2e, 3e and 3.5e). However, WotC is out to make money and when they see something on the decline and they have ridden the train as far as it will go, they will release a new edition to bolster sales again. so really it is not a matter of how good you have it now, it is how good WotC has it in selling their product (the release of 4e was why Pathfinder:aka 3.75e came about if you didn't know).
Whith this said, i love 5e and hope we can stick with it for awhile.

I just want to tell everyone "happy gaming" and actually mean it. Whatever your game is, just have fun with it, it is after all, just a game.
No one is saying there won't ever be a 6th edition, everyone knows that'll happen eventually. What people are saying is that it's not going to happen any time soon for exactly the reason you mention; WotC is out to make money and 5e is making bank. They've got video games and board games and kids books and massive live stream events. There are streams like critical role and the chain and the adventure zone using 5e which people want to emulate. Basically they've hit the jackpot on this edition and are going to milk it for every copper piece.

Establish boundaries. And if anyone crosses them, speak up. If they don’t listen, there’s always cloudkill …
Not to mention, developing another edition would be an added cost. They have to pay developers, artists, fresh marketing, etc. As long as 5e is doing well, it's in everyone's best interest for them to ride the wave (except the artists, maybe).
Actually they keep employing artisit as long as they come out with new material. it is when they stop putting out things everyone wants. If you look back, they have only touched the tip of the iceberg with all the old material that is becoming new again (Tales from the yawing portal, Dungeon of the Mad Mage!). Once they start hitting campaign rewrites, i could see WotC et all in for a very long run of work.

I think it's more likely 5.5e would come out, rather than 6e. It would keep the ball rolling on 5e and allow for minor rule tweaks while keeping the same base!
i myself would like there to be a better use for backgrounds and some more "fun" abilities. I also think there should be some things like npc classes which are less about combat and more to flesh out npc customization.
From stuff I heard that anymore monster books will be along the lines of Volo's and Mordenkainens book, consisting of Lore, Player info and such along the lines of those. Both of which I really enjoy and when can we as players not need more critters and such to meet, befriend or kill if we must. We cannot have to many of them, but for a 6th edition I myself do not want one as this edition is a bang up good job of rules for gaming. The only thing I see the need for is another book along the lines of the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide or Xanathar's Guide. I can see this book expanding on the new rules that are in the last few adventures, mainly ships and land vehicles (Ghosts of Saltmarsh/Baldur's Gate Descent) as well as the Follower/sidekick rules from the essentials kit. Then throw in some new subclasses, backgrounds, spells and magic items and poof a new book. Maybe even the Artificer and the Psion class hopefully.
Personally, while I do like the streamlined mechanics and the overall balance issues that got fixed from 3rd and 4th edition, I would still like to see tweaks to the character backgrounds, esp. for bonds, flaws, and ideals. Right now there is no in-game incentive at most tables for the DM to pay attention to them, so a lot of players just flat out ignore them. I agree with one of the previous posters that it should be more flexible by RAW to have skills and proficiencies that Don't synergize with the PC's class for RP purposes without feeling like you are decreasing the party's general survivability. Do PCs have lives outside of being s/heroes? A more robust system for integrating and calls back to non-fight/non-sneak skills and their bonds/flaws/ideals would make character-building and character playing more interesting, at least for those of us who want to do more than beat up monsters and take their stuff.
Having recently returned to D&D after a long hiatus (I last played 2nd edition in the early 90s, but most of my playing was done in 1st edition AD&D in the 80s), I sincerely hope they spend much more time with 5th edition than they have with the previous couple of iterations. I suspect that, given the popularity of 5e, the longevity will be closer to 1st edition (10+ years), with perhaps minor updates/tweaks along the way.
At the present time, I believe any public announcements of a 6th edition would do more harm than good to the player base.
When will the system be based on history-based RPG and less like a video game. With so many books in the past, having a solid, physically determined plot of society, detail about religion and races. What do you hear from the producers?

D&D is a fantasy roleplaying game so why would you expect it to be 'history-based'? You say "less like a video game", so do you maybe mean a simulationist/high 'realism' game? If so, likely never, certainly not any time soon. They've found a sweet spot with an abstracted approach and emphasising fun over simulation. If you don't enjoy that, you're probably better off seeking out other systems, there are plenty out there.
As for your second point about world build (I assume), D&D again has found their stride through expanding the world through adventures. Also, all the FR lore is still valid and accurate, so they're just not reprinting it.
And all we've heard from the designers is that there's no sigh of a new edition anywhere on the horizon, and if there was it'd likely be a '5.5 esque' product that would be compatible with 5e rather than replacing it.

My biggest complaint is the lack of tools for a DM. Years ago during 3e there was a fan developed, open source app for creating and managing characters. Then a cease and desist was issued. It sounds like OrcPub received the same orders, so it’s likely to vanish soon. While DnD Beyond is supposed to fit the “legal” solution, not everyone can pay $500+ for the content.
Basically, I’m beginning to question why I would buy the books if I’m going to have to pay another $30 to use any of the content from that book with DnD Beyond. [REDACTED]
Notes: Pirated content is prohibited from discussion.
DNDBeyond is the official source for D&D online presence. So yeah, all those other places were doing it wrong and illegally so to protect their ip, they had to shut them down.
Just a reminder that the Core books and adventures came out before DDB was thought of, so while we are starting to see the vouchers, there wasn’t a way to do it before.
Maybe 6th ed it will be thought of, but I don’t see it coming out anytime soon.

You don’t have to buy the compendium content - you can just buy the tools to manage your characters and/or monsters (not NPCs yet). I don’t think it’s unreasonable to have to pay for tools separately to the book content, since they have functionality built in (i.e. character builder and encounter builder). But it’s not $30 and you can buy them piecemeal.
I an very happy with 5e and hope it stays around for some time. I could see some updates in the future though. My biggest issue with a new edition is all the money spent on the previous edition books. With that said I am also happy that I bought the actual books and not the digital copies so when a new edition comes out I will not loose what I have payed for. Also who is to say a new edition will be better. Look what happened to 4e (I will admit that I liked that system and still use it for reference material). It would sure suck balls to lose any digital content that was purchased because a new edition came out. In the end I think there will be a 6th edition but I think it is still far off. I hope that they build on the current system for many years to come. My worst fear with a new edition is it being digital only. With a sub/purchase option. Sadly I think that is the way the game is headed. Sure they will justify it by making updates. In the end its all about making money. Honestly if it ever went digital only I would not be moving into another edition. Worst case I would retire from D&D altogether. Have been playing since the 80s.
...which is why I'm upset that Unearthed Arcana is now bent on either fundamentally changing how classes work (for the worse I think, they're losing their uniqueness) or, and I think this is the real case, playtesting 5.5e.
With that Unearthed Arcana release, I'm convinced we'll have 5.5e within a few years. And I'm not excited.

I’ve read over the new unearth arcana stuff and it just seems to be offering improvements and potential changes to give a character more freedom, a lot of them still feel like they have the classes base idea in mind, and at the same time it’s play testing content it’s not all gonna be great right out the bat, if you think there’s changes that should be made fill the survey that WoTC has on there website for it

That's true. I presume a monster manual is more art heavy, but probably not that much in the big scheme of things.
