When it comes to content sharing is it only available when books are purchased or does it also work for al la carte purchases?
My situation is this, I have the Master Tier sub and have created a campaign. I'm able to toggle on and off content sharing for books I've purchased or others in the campaign have purchased. However, I have a player in the campaign that's purchased magic items al la carte from other source books that none of us own and we're not able to see them, nor do I have them listed to toggle on or off.
The campaign toggles control access to the compendium content - they don't control access to the content for the character sheet.
This was introduced primarily because people wanted to share their content, but also not have their players able to read the adventure that they are running.
All purchased content is shared when content sharing is enabled - please make sure that the character you are using is in the campaign (only characters in the campaign benefit from content shared via that campaign).
If you believe that some content is missing, there could be a caching issue - disable content sharing for that campaign, then re-enable sharing again.
So that i understand clearly, if I've purchased a subclass a la cart from a sourcebook, it won't appear in my player's options when they make their characters?
But it would if i purchased the entire book as a "compendium"?
There's a Content Management feature that is intended to eventually be notably more comprehensive. At the moment, it allows you to toggle compendium content on and off so your players can't read the adventure if you don't want them to.
Subclasses, magic items, etc... don't become unavailable on the character sheet if you have content sharing on, but turn off the book the items are in.
Anything in your collection (including homebrew things you add) pushes down to the character sheet and editor when you share content.
It's also why it's not best to leave everything you create in your own collection until you're ready to unveil it to players.

No. Compendiums do not unlock player options for anyone. Compendiums are only transcripts of the books, and not compatible with any tools on DDB. Just for reading.
"Entire books" are the compendium + all player/tools options.
Any player/tool options you purchase are available just for you unless you are in a content sharing campaign. Then they will also be available to characters in that campaign.
