No. The physical copies are made by WotC and distributed by vendors. D&D Beyond is made by Curse. If you want to use a book here, you'll have to purchase the digital copy.
It is a bit of money but if you are running or playing a game, D&D Beyond is VERY helpful. For me, it was easier to purchase things as I needed them, even just buying a class that you are playing and some spells or feats. Once you've paid enough to cover the cost of the entire book, it becomes unlocked for you. This way, you can turn your coffee money into D&D books, but it will require some patience to unlock everything.
as Nine-Hands mentions, you can easily purchase just the bits you need - you will receive an equal discount off the full book if you decide to purchase it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it also legal for them to create homebrew copies of the PH material as long as they don't publish it?

Correct - one could recreate the entirety of published books in the homebrew section WITHOUT publishing the content. You can then use and share with your campaigns as you see fit! Digital character sheets will need digital content. Physical content doesn't roll over into the digital world at this time.
Is there a way to show that I already own the handbooks and don't have to buy the digital copies?

A dwarf with a canoe on his back? What could go wrong?
Unfortunately, no. But all the content is available digitally here, going forward.
This is hard to swallow, I really enjoy all of the D&D Beyond Content and would utilize it, but I do not see myself repurchasing all of the books.

Hi Wiegraf,

I just sold my physical books. The recovered money was enough to buy them here! :)
Just wait for a big sale. We're in the post-holiday doldrums so it might be a while but there'll be another one.
