After the encounter with Agatha one of my players decided to burn down her house. It totally caught me off guard because there was no conflict leading up to the act. So I made up a curse because at the time I didn’t have a state block or lore to go on and placed it on him but I didn’t really know if that was the right response would she have attacked does it destroy her, because she is linked to that place? Just curious if anyone knows more lore that could help make it more realistic. Kinda going for a haunting at this point, with the hut being a seal of her true evil and now she is buying time till her power fully returns. I dunno though seems clunky.
There is no "wrong" action by the DM - though all monsters have preferred behaviours and personalities, any individual can do anything. And when players surprise you you have to go with your gut, which I think was good in this instance. Check the Banshee entry in the Monster Manual: banshees are bound to their location, though nothing is mentioned of them being protective of it. She'd probably be more curious about them destroying her valued collected trinkets, but I don't think she even had any mentioned. So a curse works perfectly (and doesn't require you to have the players get TPKed by a Banshee).
Thank you for your feedback! I was just curious because it totally caught me off guard in the moment lol. I have only been doing the DM thing for about a month and only recently gained access to all the materials. The character might have been getting bored so now we have a whole new arc to pursue. As far as the TPK it was well within the realm of possibility which is why I made him do several skill challenges on the way back to see if he could resist her influence. Gave him nightmares as he slept to cause exhaustion and such. His scales began to wither and crack and he would deal necrotic damage to living objects within five feet. After ten days of travel he barely made it to town where they were able to reverse the physical effects of the curse. After which he swore a oath to destroy her. Lol
Consequences all actions in D&D have consequences!

Roll the dice and play the game, I’m not here to listen to your politics.
“But this isn’t right. You’re meant to charge in, sword drawn, banner flying-that’s what all the other knights did!” “Yeah, right before they burst into flame.”

Sounds like you handled it pretty awesomely! I love when little almost insignificant encounters become game changers.
Sounds like you got a firebug in your group. LOL

Thank you I am super excited creating the story arc for him and her. :)
