What is everyone's opinion on more half races? We have have-elf, half-orc, and satyrs (i guess?) but thats about it. There should be more half races. There is such a diverse selection of full races and subraces, why not add more to half races as well? such as:
- Humans with scales and horns (human/ dragonborn)
- humans with wings/ birds eyes (human/ aarakokra)
- humans with dog/ cat ears and dog/ cat tails (humans/ tabaxi or human/ what other animal race there is)
- tabxi with horns (tabaxi/ teifling)
There is an infinite amount of possibilities with half races. PLEASE add some official half-races dnd beyond!
Id rather have more unique races myself. Things like an Ooze Race or some insectoid races.
The half race thing to me seems like it should be a combination of traits from the two parent races (As per the half elf) which seems like something that can be done fairly easily by the DM (I recently had to make a half dragonborn half elf for my game). I fully understand saying "jUsT hOmEbReW iT" isn't a good answer to people who want more half races, but there are a lot of non-half races and if each of them gets a half race with humans than that doubles the amount of races. That being said, if they released a hlafrace that had unique features, like half orcs I am SO BEYOND DOWN for that sort of thing.
What I would prefer is if there was some sort of template released for how to create half races using the traits from their parent races. That would be something I would super be into.

This is off topic, but D&D Beyond isn't owned by WotC. DDB is owned by Fandom and has no control over what is in the books. Going on topic, I'm annoyed that they half to be half human. Why can't we have Half Elven halflings?

I agree that there should be half races besides half-human, though halflings are... small. Tieflings are essentially half-races already, part devil and part human/elf/orc/other medium race.

I feel the best way to handle half-lineages is to use the Custom Lineage format. That said, we need more feats that can represent better the diversity of lineages that already exist in the game, and that can imagine new kinds of traits. If both you and your DM can agree on creating a feat that represents the traits of your lineage, even better.
you do make a fair point. It doesnt have to be all half human, it was just some examples i could think of at the time. I would thoroughly enjoy if there were races like half elven halflings or even having more monstrous races like insects or tree/ shrub races.
Custom Lineage (CL) was designed more as a cultural thing. ASI's Skill proficiencies and feats are more so dependent on how someone was raised and not who your race is. If you are a trained swordsman it would make sense for your STR to be increased regardless of what race you are. Flight for example is not something within CL. Neither is your breath weapon as a dragonborn or Magic resistance of the Yuan-ti. Those are the traits that are much more interesting to play around with then proficiencies and ASI's. Those are the things that are referred to when I talk about a half race.
If im a half Dragonborn half Lizard folk (they are both reptilians hence why i used them as an example) What happens? Do i get all of the features of both. Do I get some of the features of one and some of the other? Do I get all of the features of one and some of the features of the other? What about things that dont have a direct mechanical impact like height, weight, and physcial appearance? Those are the sort of questions that I would like answered as far as half races go, and I think it would be cool if they made a modular thing that says something like "You get one trait from each parent and any traits that they might share. You then get to choose a additional trait from either side." Then they can take a table of compatible races as a guide of what can breed with what but only as a guide and not a rule. Of course as a DM i could then choose to combine any races I want because I have the basic rule for it and create a Half Lizardfolk Half Tabaxi if I so chose.
Just as an example, I dont actually know how that system would work or if it is even a good idea. Just something modular like that would be interesting to me assuming that they didnt want to make anymore half races with fully unique abilities.

I would like a half tiefling/half human, but half tabaxi/half human and half aarakokra/half human is a little too weird for me.
A fool pulls the leaves. A brute chops the trunk. A sage digs the roots.

Third Edition tried to do half everything. It was obnoxious.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
