The weight of coins generally ceases to be an issue once the party has found its first Bag of Holding.
“First bag of holding?!?” You get more than 1 per campaign? 💩! I’ve been in campaigns in which there weren’t any.
Spotsa,
My last DM allowed me to buy three for my character, and the other PCs likewise. A BoH is a given for many tables. But you knew that.
One, sure (although frankly I don’t think anything should be a given in D&D), but more than one?!? And I have legit played at tables where finding even one was actually cause for celebration, and some where we never got one at all.
Well since it was revisited, lol, yes, I use electrum coins.
also, I have bags of holding, pouches of holding, backpacks of holding, chests of holding, jugs of holding…
Historically, they were pretty much a given find in the 80’s, became hard to find in the 90’s, and these days everyone groans when they find one because they are certain it means that there is going to be a really hard fight soon, lol.
even if they just finished one to find it.
They are on my standard list of goodies found, though, so it isn’t true, just a perception.

In my worldbuilding the Nobility noted that too much grain was lost to mold, rodent food, rodent contamination, other environmental factors, that they sought a better solution to granaries. One smart fellow came up with the idea that a granary would be linked by teleportation to another plane of existence where the grain is stored on the other plane where rodents, moisture and other environmental factors will not change the grain for the worse. Recovering the grain involves a ritual ending with opening the chute and the grain pours out until the chute is closed.
It is the ultimate expansion of a Bag of Holding.

As a naturllyocuringlloy elctrum is roughly 50-50% but fairly variable from as much as 75% liver to as little as 25 % silver. As a coinage it’s just as bad.while supposedly half’s half it’s fairly easy to debase by adding copper and lead to maintain the weight/“feel” of the coins. As I said on page 2 the problem with electrum is the scale of spending by PCs. As with the nobility their real wealth is in gold and platinum and gems etc. But they typically need to carry “small change” for day to day living expenses. You go to a seedy seaport tavern you don’t need to be laying down gold pieces, so most of my characters carry a small pouch with 2 EP, 5 SP & 10 CP for day to day expenses. They only break out the gold and platinum when they are on a major shopping spree or buying major things.
on the topic of bags of holding, getting one does pretty much signal that encumberance is pretty well not going to be considered from here on out in the campaign.

Some games just have more magic items than others.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

In my worlds, some society only trade in silver or gold, and some only trade in gems and electrum. Make having the right coins more important.
I didn’t see what you did there.
Electrum is 55.5555% silver and 44.4445% gold. If anyone is interested :)
