I'm looking to buy some dice bags separately to my dice (as I have two loose sets) but I'm not sure how big a 'standard' dice bag is. I only want them big enough to hold one set; not all my sets. I have thirteen of them, but for now I have good storage for them. Thanks in advance for any responses, and please let me know if this is in the wrong place.
A standard set of 7 (d4, d6, d8, d10, dP, d12, and d20) fit in an average prescription bottle. You know, the orang ones with the lid that screws on either way? That’s all as big as it needs to be.
I am no help on this subject. I have everything ranging from the Laura Bailey size one that my wife bought me, to the Wyvern sized Easy Roller Dice to leather bags from Critical Role to multiple sizes of Crown Royal to little ones made out of the felty stuff and the little leather ones my metal dice are in. Mostly they are all holding patterns now for my Easy Roller Dice tray that has storage on the outside when I actually get to use dice (it feels so long ago)... heck... if you really need it, you could just go find a cool clean sock that you lost the other half of and use that... Just beware. Dice bags (just like their dice counterparts) are very addictive if you aren't careful.
Edit: Oh yeah... and I forgot about my six sided dice in the oversize quart glass tankard, the assorted dice in the milk glass jar and the gallon sized ziplock bag that has several quart sized bags separating random dice sets from the d10s for CWOD... oh, and the old fancy carved wood box that houses the Fantasy Flight Star Wars dice... yeah... I'm still probably forgetting something...
I'd recommend having a full set and at least two D20s for rolling advantage/disadvantage.
Beyond that, depends on what class(es) you are playing. If you are carrying a greatsword you should have 2 D6 for instance. If you are a rogue, have enough D6s for sneak attack damage.
Casters might need a lot more dice if you don't want to reroll the same one multiple times for a single cast but since you have a limited amount of times you can cast any one spell, I wouldn't say having that many is a necessity.
At minimum have a full set and an extra D20 and whatever dice you need for your "standard" attacks. Having too many dice is a bad thing though.
Unless you are a DM, you don't need more than 2 D20s. Having 10 of them is just going to make it harder to find the dice that you actually need.
As a DM, I have 3 full sets of dice and then a bag of assorted other dice. Keeping the 3 completed sets on hand helps me stay organized, as I know each set has at least one of whichever die I am looking for. If I'm playing a caster, I might dig into my sack of assorted dice preemptively if I'm planning to cast a fireball or something at the party.
As the DM, it is also ok to just use the average values, especially in larger fights where you are controlling many NPCs. This helps move the game along as large fights can really drag.
I have what I think is the standard size, about 3.5 x 5 inches. I've got the four full sets, plus a few extras in there that I bring to away games. It's pretty stuffed, but not overstuffed. It should definitely fit two sets.
I have started using the halloween candy bucket. But the 1 starting set I give out to new people are either 3 by 4 or 4 by 5 depending on which jewelry bags were on sale. Or you can sew your own.
