Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online via discord and D&D Beyond Maps Experience: A few years Location/Timezone: London (GMT+1) Schedule: Wednesdays, 7pm-9:30pm GMT+1 every other week. Roles sought: 4-6 players (any level of experience, age 16+) Game style: Semi-open world, high roleplay and exploration, medium tactical combat
I'm looking for players for a homebrew investigation adventure called "The Kidnapping at Banthes." The town mayor and his family went missing from their manor house during the night. There was no forced entry. One of the town guards is accused of letting outlaws into the town and the house and has been sentenced to death. His daughter believes he is innocent and wants your help to clear his name.
Character levels: 2 to 4.
I expect the adventure to take 3 to 5 sessions.
You will need a discord account, a reasonably reliable internet connection, a microphone (a built-in mic is fine), and a suitable device with a power supply (I have had players run out of battery during a session before).
Source books: We'll mostly be using the 2024 Player's Handbook. Use the latest official rules for your character. If there is a class, species, subclass, etc. from an earlier, official WotC source, you can use the latest official version of the rules, e.g., Artificer, necromancer wizard, etc.
I'm calling this semi-open world because you don't have to do things in a specific order. The few dungeons in the adventure are non-linear. You can overcome obstacles through combat, stealth or negotiation. You can come and go as you like, but I won't plan extra material if you want to go "off-map". That's what I mean by "semi" open.
As a DM, I have about 5 years' experience with TRPGs and D&D 5e. I like to give players the freedom to do things their way. The rules offer a lot of options to customise player characters and I like to grant similar freedom to the players to solve the challenges in the adventure. I like to add some moral nuance to my adventures, and this is no exception. Some enemies you meet will be plain evil, while others simply have a different perspective. This gives room for players to negotiate with some enemies. My DM style doesn't necessarily support min-maxing, as many scenarios call for strategy and lateral thinking, not DPS. I don't mean to tell anyone NOT to join the game, just that, if you join, please be open to solving problems with something other than combat occasionally.
