I’m looking for a few players for a play‑by‑post D&D campaign that runs on Discord (for RP and OOC) and Foundry VTT (for maps, rolls, and visuals). We will use Tupper for IC conversation.
This will be a quicker-progression campaign where the campaign is very much altered by who your character is and what their goals are for themselves and the world around them. I want it to feel like a sandbox experience but it will still have a driven storyline as well. Here are some notes on what I'm thinking:
You build who your character is, not just how they are in combat.
The world responds to your choices.
We will benefit from the use of Play-by-Posts, allowing characters to really do what they want to do. In a perfect world, we'd have a couple active parties each doing their own things, with some overlap and abilities for players to take breaks and do other things IC while they're not as active OOC.
If you like character growth, recurring NPCs, and the feeling that your choices actually matter in the wider world, this might be your kind of game.
The World & Style
System: D&D 5e, 2024 rules
Medium: Play‑by‑post on Discord, a mix of foundry + Avrae for combat and dice rolling.
Theme: A large, sandbox-style world with multiple threads going at once
Setting: The custom world of 'Elenvaloria'. There will be a World Anvil page that can help you guide character creation and get you entrenched in the world. The 'quick pitch' is that the world is a mysterious place. Seven ancient bells stand throughout the world. Nobody knows who build them or what their purpose is, only that when one of them tolls, something changes. In the past, a bells toll has caused crops to instantly grow, monsters to sprout from the ground, or for the entire world to drop by ten degrees. Furthermore, the world's best group of heroes and guardians were all brutally murdered thirty years ago, and all leads have gone cold.
The main races of the world are human, halfling, elf, dwarf, Orc, gnome, and Caloguran (a homebrew race that will be expanded upon), however other races can be worked into the story.
As of now, Elenvalorians are not aware of other dimensions or space travel, so while magic is a big piece of the world, that's where they're at technologically.
Tone: A mix of adventure, intrigue, and personal drama. Not grimdark, but not goofy all the time either.
Focus:
Character arcs and relationships
Exploring who your character becomes over time
Consequences that ripple out into the broader world
Play‑By‑Post Details
Format: Asynchronous. No session times but wouuld vastly prefer you be able to play in times that work for the USA (where I reside). In the past when I've done Pbp, we've had some players who have been in completely other timezones which results in them only posting once a day or two. I'd love to keep an active group.
Pace: Aiming for a steady but relaxed posting rate – enough to keep the story moving, without feeling like a second job. We will take some breaks, especially over weekends. I have a family, so you don't need to feel like this is a job, but we want to keep the pace moving.
What I’m Like as a DM
I want to build a world together. If you give me goals, fears, and unresolved stuff, I will absolutely use them.
I like collaboration: I’m happy to weave in your ideas for locations, NPCs from your backstory, or things your character wants to find or build.
What I’m Looking For in Players
A group that really wants to get into their characters and roleplay. It can be a bit tough in PbP, but really getting into characters will allow for a good depth of storytelling.
You’re excited about long term character development and roleplaying
You’re okay with sharing spotlight – sometimes you’ll be at the center of the scene, sometimes you’ll be supporting others.
You're committed to staying a part of the group.
You can communicate: “Hey, I’m busy this week, I’ll be slow” is totally fine; disappearing without a word isn’t.
All experience levels welcome – new to D&D is fine as long as you’re willing to learn.
If You’re Interested…
