30 years ago playing AD&D and our party surprised a green dragon that our DM expected would lead to a tough fight. My barbarian rolled a natural 20 on consecutive to-hit rolls AND maximum damage and took it out before any of the rest of the group even got a chance to do anything. #DDBStyle
First time....DM? I’ve never even played any TTRPG, but always wanted to play Dungeons and Dragons. I convinced three friends to play and they made me the DM...so I guess I still haven’t played yet. We have been playing for a year now and there are 7 PCs now, and DnDBeyond has been a lifesaver for me trying to keep my head above water. So thanks a million!
I am running LMoP and made the mistake of giving a random redbrand the wand of Lightning Bolt. So of course the first time he shows up, 6 of my 7 PCs line up just in time for him to cast it...he maxed out all but 2 of his 8d6 and every, single Dex save was failed. If the last player hadn’t had the brains and CHA to make a deal with a Feind for help it would have been a TPK.
As it is the party now needs to figure out how to get out of this unbreakable contract they made. That single decision has given us many hours of campaign material. Such fun! #DDBStyle
One of the rolls that was met with the most excitement in my campaign was when our party was facing off against a pack of Yeth hounds. Our centaur barbarian, Zelia asked to kick a bucket at one of them. We had our 'fight' music playlist playing over the speakers in the background and the entire party was still very hyped after a magical wrestling match. As she requested this move, Angel of the Morning started playing. She rolled a Nat 20 and jumped up shouting right as the dramatic 'just call me angel' beat started. The entire table lost their minds and she kicked that bucket so hard it hit the Yeth hound right in the face and sent it flying in a cinematic movie moment! It's become one of our parties favourite moments.
I was running a game and every single d20 I had rolled a crit fail, dooming the big bad to be nothing more than a minor annoyance. My players were laughing like crazy as their arch enemy fell to their attacks without some much as hitting them. #DDBStyle
My story revolves around Logan of The Fortuitous Few. Each character an amazingly fleshed out character. Except for one - Logan. Logan was introduced to the party as an everyman Wood Elf. You'd forget he existed except that he was so frail (6 Strength) and Lucky (had the feat). It was revealed to Logan sometime later that he was a Warforge that had an advanced Gith technology affixed to him without his knowledge to appear as an average Wood Elf. This caused Logan to develop a flaw of wanting to experience and touch everything as if to prove things were real.
One day The Fortuitous Few find themselves in the Underdark. Teleportation magic has been acting screwing, but the group thinks nothing of it. We happen upon a body of water that we must swim up to get further. Upon emerging from the water, we are faced with a largebeautifulpearlescent sphere. Logan proceeds to reach out to it (of course). The DM spoke of a gravitational pull towards the center and to make a Strength Saving throw. Natural 1. “No biggie you’re just pulled in closer roll another Strength Saving throw low DC.” Natural 1. *Activate Luck Feat*. Natural 1. The dice had spoken, and the DM stated, “You either have the group yank you out losing your arm, or you head towards the center.” I will never forget the immense amount of emotion I had trying to make the decision to either lose an arm or potentially retire this character I had fallen in love with. It was amazing and made me love failures more than successes.
I started playing D&D with 3.5 back in college. We had been exploring and eventually found a cave inhabited by an Ancient Black Dragon. After careful planning and set up, we attacked! We were doing well until the dragon feared the party. I was the only person who resisted. I managed to hold off the dragon for 4 rounds as a shapeshifted druid while the rest of the party kept failing their saving throws. Finally, they all made it back in and we took the dragon down as a party. That saving throw and the attacks from the dragon had my heart racing for the entire fight. #DDBStyle
Ah, I'm new to this wonderful world of dice and fantasy. My first campain was only a year ago.. It included 5 of my friend and myself. We played for 5-6 sessions and we were all falling in love with our characters.. until our PCs were murdered during the adventure. My bard had hit 3 too many critical ones and I had to sit mortified as my entire party met their fate that day. Rest in peace, Rigmar. Til we meet again.
So in my last campaign, i’d like to preference we were super low level when our DM sprung a a green dragon on us, now I don’t know whether it was an adult or a young dragon but regardless we are probably still level like six or seven. Anyways, our barbarian friend was how did him a boat to get closer to his dragon so he can do some damage but by the time he got to the dragon it was really super low health, and on his first and only attack he’s got a natural 20 and kill the dragon😂 I know it’s not heart racing but it was so funny that he spent all his time getting to it that all he needed was one good hit to end it #DDBStyle
I was a young barbarian and at risk of dying to a dreaded kobold. They had the upper hand and I was on my last limbs. Rather than use good sense and flee, I made a last ditch effort with the swing of my sword, rolling a 20 and critting the vile creature into the ground. #DDBStyle #DDBStyle
I recall a time when I was playing a musketeer with an obsession for killing big game animals. I talked my friend into joining the dnd party but he never told me what character he was making. He ended up making a Druid and within 5 minutes of meeting our group turned into a bear. I decided my character not knowing what a druid is and seeing a bear would try to shoot kill it and take its head as a trophy. I ended up rolling a nat 20 and one shoting my former friend. To this day he refuses to play a druid and still gives me shit for killing him. He is currently DM a campaign I'm in and threatens to have me killed on a weekly basis.
Back in 2010/2011, I was in a 24-hour D&D session. At one point, the party were travelling through an enchanted forest. The DM would ask us to roll a d20 to see how the plant life would affect us. I was extremely unfortunate to roll a Nat1 five times in a row. Fortunately for me (Or the DM took pity on me), none of the plants was deadly.

One time I rolled a crit one, five times in a row.
I was playing Descent into Avernus and had just reached Level 10 with my Dwarf Cleric. We were trying to free the chains from Elturel when the DM described Zariel speeding towards us. He asked us what we wanted to do and I said "Divine Intervention!". He rolled his eyes, and said go ahead and try. I rolled my 2 D10s and got a 00 and 07, disrupting the game store as the members of my party cheered. We were able to get an additional blessing to persuade Zariel to change her ways and help free the city. #DDBStyle
The heart racing moment for me would be when I was rolling a death save. I was at 2 death saves, had 2 dead ogres on top of me, ignoring broken bones and such, as the party were lifting the first ogre, I had to do my final death save, as they couldn't heal me in time or give a potion of healing. It was dead quiet in the room, and I rolled the dice.. it felt like a slow motion movie going on. The dice is spinning and as it slows down, it finishes and it lands on a Nat 20! The room went crazy and the DM thought I was a goner, and honestly? So did I, and it will be thrilling to experience even more heart racing moments in the future! #DDBStyle
My heart raced when our party was trying to get through a large lightning storm at the peak of a mountain to enter the cave we had long searched for. Everything had come down to finding this cave. Everyone in the party was climbing up and we had to make 3 rolls. On the last roll we had to do, someone in party rolled a 3 - lightning struck them unconscious. Another person rolled a 19 they made it to the top. It was my turn. I rolled wishing for a nat 20 and got a 19. I said, "Hey that's good enough for me!" everyone in the room laughed as I was the last person to make it up to the top.
Playing my first ever character in 4th Edition, a Ranger. We were trapped in a jail, with a caster stood at the top of the stairs which led down to the only way out. We were all on super low health, and her Aura was increasing everyones AC, making the fight super hard. We all needed to roll at least 14+ to hit anyone.
I had been knocked prone, and decided to try something special, with disadvantage, I decided to try to use one of my last abilities, a shot that knocked her backwards. I rolled a 20, and a 15, just hitting. She flew backwards, taking extra damage from the fall, the aura dropped, and my group managed to finish off the jailors, and the cleric was able to get a heal off without getting smacked in the face and downed!
Best roll ever, the entire group held their breath watching the dice spin :D
I was playing my rogue in Curse of Strahd and got a nat 2 on my perception check, but was able to boost it up to around 20-25 with the help of expertise, Knowledge from a Past Life, Psi-Bolstered Knack, and Bardic Inspiration #DDBStyle
Seeing my player's wizard hit a critical with firebolt and roll max damage to boot, thus one-shoting my baddie made my pulse raise, but likely not in a very good way. Lol. #DDBStyle
Dragon Heist is my firts campaign, i am a wizard. In the pursue of the stone we get to the valet trying to flee in coach, i cast suggestion so that he gives us the stone a helps us, he fails and i am so happy, right after me a imp come flying, hits me and and i get a nat 1 in concentration.... heartbroken after that... #DDBStyle
