"Thanks for patching us up." Tarton says to Gwrgi as his hand is wrapped up.
To Erolith he replies, "I'll be good by morning I think, thanks. And I'll take second watch."
Tarton asks Gwrgi as he helps look for stirge victims that Gwrgy suggested may be around, "When you speak of your Order, is that a religious or a dragon thing, or is it the river guide group you worked with?" After a pause he adds, "By the way, do you often find survivors of these pests' attacks, or is it just the bodies that you find?"

Later, as Artifex volunteered for the night watch, the Black Rose approached him. "Then we better make sure you are well-equipped to get through the night." With practiced precision, he injected Artifex with his healing serum.
Sitting down, the Black Rose meticulously prepared another dose of his healing serum, a concoction that would be ready by morning before going to sleep.

The Black Rose manages to find most of the reagents he is looking for, though there are two he wasn't able to locate for certain. The night breeze is blowing strongly now, and the constant stirring of the leaves makes it as difficult for him to tell what he's 'looking' at as the increasing darkness would do to a sighted person. He thinks they are in the area, though, and that he'd be able to find them with no more difficulty than the others if he searches in the still just before dawn. As he returns to the camp, he also finds a pouch with an ivory baton sticking out of the string-closed mouth; when he opens it in camp, he also finds 30 worn silver coins he does not recognize.
"I haven't yet met a restless dead, but that is what this mission is about so I'm sure it won't be long before I do." Tarton replies to Gwrgi. He then helps set up the tents and lays out his bed roll. Tarton didn't notice that The Black Rose had a new pouch he was looking at, being too distracted by whatever it is he is thinking about.
He finishes up his day's rations and as the sun sets, he says to Artifex, "Thanks for taking care of the watch." Then he goes into his tent and performs his nightly routine before crawling into his bedroll and trying to go to sleep.
Erolith smiles at Artifex’s eleven comment being an elf himself. “Understood.”
He then leaves the group to investigate the surrounding area more closely. Sticking to the perimeter of the camp, Erolith positions himself to oversee the party.
And is there any chance we could say Artifex has a painters kit on them? It's a simple enough item and it's the one they're proficient in. Plus I like the idea that they retouch it's tattoos with paint. It's a bit pricey but maybe they could've haggled its way down or conned someone into trading it for one of their bottles of colored water, something of that nature.
(Sorry I missed this one at the time. Sure, sounds reasonable to me, go ahead and add it. I'd assume Artifex would be smart enough to make sure the pigments they inject under their skin are natural and/or nontoxic. If they ever have to renew their tattoos in a particularly unhygenic environment, though, I might have them roll Medicine to see if they succeed in keeping the operation sterile enough to keep from getting an infection)

He finishes up his day's rations and as the sun sets, he says to Artifex, "Thanks for taking care of the watch." Then he goes into his tent and performs his nightly routine before crawling into his bedroll and trying to go to sleep.
"A restless dead! And you're seeking them out? How fascinating!," Gwrgi replies, her eyes becoming sharp with interest. "Most people try to avoid them, rather, except for us and those brave souls who make it their individual quest to hunt down and destroy the abominations.. But since my friend Zanexi is your employer I'm not too surprised. He's very civic-minded about working to make the frontier safer for everyone. Please do tell me more soon. But not tonight if you don't want, we're all about tuckered out."
Erolith, meanwhile, finds a comfortable spot near the base of the knoll you are camped on, partly hidden from any that might approach by a thicket of reeds that are still widely set enough to not block his vision. If there is anything else to find though, the night is now too dim and the ambient temperatures of all things in the vicinity too similar for even his sharp elven eyes to detect.
Finding comfort under the open heavens, The Black Rose chose to sleep without the confines of a tent, relishing the freedom of the night. Cradling the coins and the ivory baton in his hands, he studdy them intently and as he drifted into slumber, he clutched the ivory baton.
In the realms of dreams, amidst shifting shadows and half-formed thoughts, he made a silent promise to himself. Tomorrow, at the break of dawn, he would share his discoveries with the others. After he had searched for the healing reagents, he was sure they were nearby.

{I can tell you that, and throw in the date when the other one's full for lagniappe! :) In this area, though there is no one faith more prevalent than the other, the custom has grown up of at least giving lip service to Inveralwyn and Gyrk'vasa, two animistic goddesses drawn from the ancestral faiths of Ulvsnesshjolm and Aberstwyth respectively. I'm working on a post that will give you all a lot more detail about religion in Sauvogia {the name the northern continent you all are on recently told me it wanted to be known by ;) }. What's pertinent at the moment is that Gyrk'vasa is the goddess ruling autumn and winter; Inveralwyn is the goddess of spring and summer; and since one of the moons is brightest at midsummer and the other at midwinter, they have come to be called in this area by the names of the goddesses that rule their seasons of fullest light. I must admit I've lost track a bit of what season I said it was LOL; if I didn't, let's put it at late spring/early summer since most cultures at this tech level tried to minimize winter travel if at all possible. Regardless, tonight Inveralwyn is waxing, you'd guess about nine nights until she's full; and Gyrk'vasa was full thirteen days before you all arrived in Llandovion and is now on the wane. Her cycle is longer than Inveralwyn's, though, so both can still be seen in the sky.))
The night passes uneventfully, if a little chillily, but the warm blankets and tents help with that. In the morning, The Black Rose is indeed able to find his remaining reagents while Gwrgi is lighting a fire to cook breakfast. She shivers as she does. "My dragon ancestors breathed cold, not fire, but I must admit I'm far happier when it's warm."
After breakfast she gathers you all together by the boats again. "We should probably embark fairly soon, but if there's anything more you'd like to do here there's not that much of a rush either, unless Zanexi told you this mission was more urgent than that."
"I actually have something to share," the Black Rose announced, his tone a blend of excitement and curiosity. From his pocket, he withdrew a worn pouch. The Black Rose carefully spilled out a collection of silver coins. Beside the coins lay an ivory baton.
"I found these when searching for plants with healing properties," he continued "Has anyone seen something like this before?”
"How odd to find a baton in a bag of coins." Tarton observes while looking at what The Black Rose was showing everyone. "One doesn't usually keep spell casting implements with their coins, which makes me wonder if it ever was a magic implement in the first place."
Tarton reviews what he learned about handling the boats yesterday with those that were teaching him. After that, it seems he can't make up his mind to either look back down the river towards Llandovian or up the river to where they are going, as he keeps doing both.
Arcana check for ivory baton in log: 10 History check for coins in log: 2
Artifex examines the coins with a raised eyebrow, looking intrigued but also somewhat skeptical. "Hm... Twenty silver, just laying in a bag in the middle of the plant life? And you just... Found it? Did you see any body near by, signs of someone in a rush to leave? I love a stroke of good fortune as much as the next elf, but such 'gifts' are rarely given freely"
Tarton can't make out the markings on the coins at all; they are far too worn for his eyes to pick out details in the early morning light without a glass. Neither can he seem to recall any lore about a baton like this. He does note as it is pulled out of the bag that it is delicately carved with a webwork of lines that spiral from one end to the other. The end that was in the bag has a hollow depression in the tip; and three delicate claws of ivory curve out and then in from this tip as if they were meant to hold something in place. No sign of anything that fits it can be found in the vicinity.
Thinking back, The Black Rose does recall feeling some something that he thought at the time was just an unusually shaped stone but which on reflection might have been part of a hipbone. And so it proves when he leads you there. The bone is worn and gnawed by scavengers, but the hole in the middle is pretty obviously from a stirge's beak. A few other scattered bones are in the area, overgrown with moss and lichens to such a degree The Black Rose did not feel their bony hardness at all last night. All the bones seem to have come from a creature that was smaller than a human, and don't seem sturdy enough for a dwarf. But beyond that you have no idea if this was a gnome, a kobold, a halfling, a goblin, or some other being that went on two legs -- you can tell that much from the shape of the partial hipbone.
"I can't believe I missed all of this," said the Black Rose, as he began searching for anything that could possibly fit the ivory baton or anything else he might have overlooked yesterday.
Tarton rubs the sleep from his eyes as he follows The Black Rose to where he found the bag, and after seeing the scattered bones says, "Well, that is one long dead fellow. But that is no surprise with how old and worn the coins are. Well, if there is something missing from the baton I suppose I'll help look for it as well. Finding a jewel always brightens your day, right?" then he starts helping The Black Rose search the area on his hands and knees.
Perception check in log: 23 (If you want Investigation instead, roll in log: 16)
In spite of your best efforts, you fail to find anything more relating to the baton anywhere in the vicinity; Artifex' two leading theories is that this is a magical item which is currently dormant due to the lack of an empowering crystal or the like; or that it is the finely crafted main component of a planned wand or rod which was never enchanted due to the nondelivery of its main 'body' "due to unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of the party of the second part ..." Nevertheless, it is at the least a superbly carved example of the scrimshaw art, one which they estimate to be worth at least 13 gold cyfreith in terms of the currency they have most recently been dealing in.
Erolith bows low to Gwrgi in appreciation. “Thank you for your help with the stirges. Nasty beasts.”
He then checks with each member of the party. “How are we each doing? Does anyone need additional assistance? By the way, nice teamwork back there”
After everyone is tended to, Erolith scouts the immediate area looking for tracks, appropriate shelter, and anything of particular interest.
”We will have to set the watch. I’ll go first to keep any eye out.”
