Strix, at your mention of 'steal children', the woman's eyes go even wider than before, but then she hears the word 'hat' and notices the flowers on your head. She seems confused, but the long stream of words and your voice seem to reassure her that she's not about to be attacked, at least not immediately. She finally finds her voice: Brigands? There aren't any brigands here! Except you, what are you doing in my house? How did you open the door? Why are you wearing... She trails off.
There's an internal door leading from this room to the next, and you think you hear a quiet thump from the next room.
Strix points to the flowers on his head, points to the flowers on the wall, points to the internal door and the brings the finger to his lips in a "shhh" gesture, then creeps over to the internal door, pushing it open slowly with the staff (or using a sharp pull to have it swing open to one side while he's pressed to the wall on the opposite side, if it's a pull-door). (if the woman takes a defensive position between him and the door he stops)
The woman leaps up and runs to place herself in front of the door, in a very defensive position,. Stop!
As she does so, you see the door open a crack behind her, and then open a little more, and there are two small faces of children peeking out through the opening. The younger of the two is perhaps five; she looks at Strix and smiles; Hello Mr Birdie!
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Dario listens to Strix and the women. Confident that no one is approaching the house to check in on the disturb woman, Dario sneaks up to the open door of the house, trying to avoid being seen by the woman, and peeps in to see what is happening between her and Strix.
"I see. Have you to thank? Not sure would enjoy brigand heads. Not bouncy. But wait!
He hands his staff to the mother while he rummages in his pack, pulling out a small doll dotted with pins. He threads the pins carefully through his sleeve and then swaps the doll for his staff.
"Take him. Good home. He was sad... but happy here I think. Debt paid? My hat now!"
He hoots and turns to go, pausing to add "Young stay inside at night. Other carts have good watchmen!"
Unless he's stopped, he returns to the party, mindful that this might be a distraction.
If it were these children that placed the flowers on our head, I find it odd that they were able to do so without being noticed. Maybe it was a bad perception roll combined with a good stealth roll on their end. But idk. Just my thoughts.
As Strix leaves, the smaller of the two girls runs out with a handful of flower chains and crowns, and presses them into your hands. For your friends. Mamma says I have too many. She then runs quickly back into the house, and the woman, still very unnerved by the whole experience, closes the door and locks it again. You find that you have eight more crowns of flowers, similar to the one you are wearing.
For first watch, Asher rolled a natural 1 for a total of 4 Perception, and for second watch Vaz rolled a natural 2 for a total of 1. So quite unusual circumstances, hopefully. :)
Oh god yeah, I'm expecting to get a fey ambush any second :D But player knowledge stays in the spoiler boxes! Could just be that the Perception roll set the DC for the Stealth roll, like an opposed test in a FATE ruleset, so they had a huge leg up?
Worried I played this a little too lawful. In my defense, I'm a softie, and as CN he should go for personal gain in the moment over all else I think; He managed to offload a very painful memory and gain a nice new hat, and all without involving the rest of the party, so that seems like personal gain :D

I think you played that pretty well for CN. I think a character would've robbed them only if they were some form of evil. Seeing as you still benefited from the situation and didn't necessarily go out of your way to help them in any way, I think CN was rp-ed well imo

Yeah that makes sense lol not making a great first impression as escorts lmao
Dario waits for the woman to lock the door and then follows Strix back to the main camp. He points to the crown of flowers Strix is holding. "Presents?" Dario asks with an arched eyebrow.

Dario chuckles at Strix and then smells under his right armpit. "I think you might be right!" Dario says. He takes one of the flowers from Strix and takes a closer to look at them. He tries to figure out if there are anything of interest about the flowers used in the crown, if they are maybe poisonous or other detrimental factors.
Dario, they are common wildflowers in this part of the world, and you've seen them along the roadside for most of your trip so far. They are part of some medicinal concoctions, but have no special or magical properties.
As you all gather back at the camp, eventually Strix's third watch resumes, and passes without incident.

Who's taking fourth (and final) watch?
Who all has taken watch at this point? Asher, Vaz, then Dario?

I thought it went Asher, Val, Strix for night watch now Dario.
Dario goes back to resting on his haunch as he stokes the fire. He looks around the campfire. "If no one wants it, I'll take the last watch for the night." Dario then posts up to keep watch over his sleeping companions.

Perception: 11
You're probably right. I didn't know for sure, I was more or less trying to get an accurate list of keeping watch. But it seems we aren't the most perceptive bunch lol
Worth bearing in mind that Elves and half elves have darkvision, a natural affinity for Perception and only need 4 hours sleep. I have darkvision and perception proficiency (but alas, need a full night's sleep). Not sure how the rest of you are fixed, but might as well make sure we have the best chances at the highest rolls? If we work out a rota, we can submit the rolls ahead of making camp rather than the watches being handled by whomever happens to be online at the time? And who doesn't like a rota, eh?
BTW, if it's permitted, I'm happy for the DM to roll Perception for Strix's shift in the future if I'm not around to do it myself and it's holding up the game. As long as he rolls high :D
I don't have darkvision, but I assumed we had a fire burning which would give immediate light, and perception can also be hearing, so I might be able to hear someone/something coming before anything is visible.
But my perception is +3 (1 Wisdom plus proficiency).
And I'm in the same vein as Strix, I'm fine with the DM rolling for me to keep watch if I haven't responded in 5-10 minutes of the previous post. Asher regularly volunteers to keep first watch, preferring to stay awake while he already is awake, rather than being woken up in his sleep to watch, then go back to sleep.
Dario's watch is quiet, and there is one rider who passes by on the road in the darkness, in no particular hurry; you aren't able to make out much of their appearance, and they don't slow or make any sign of approaching the camp.
The group wakes in the morning, after a long and mostly trouble-free rest, and you all pack up the camp. You each ate one pack of rations yesterday, so 14 rations remain in the wagon unless you chose to eat something else.
I don't intend to make any rolls except when you're away for two days or more, and there's no need to worry about keeping others waiting. The last two days have gone at breakneck speed for PbP, and I would expect the pace of play to slow somewhat in the coming days. That's a natural pattern with PbP, and it helps makes sure that everyone is able to be a part of the adventure. I don't expect players to be on here for a long time every day, and I didn't advertise the game as such. From time to time, there'll be opportunities for short, faster-paced side adventures for those who are up for it and online at the time.
With the return of the intrepid Old Lady Frighteners and Dario taking next watch I hunker down on my bedroll, let the fire inside reduce to embers, and sleep the sleep of a Job Well Done. What that job was I'm not sure but perhaps the wine is endowing contentment.
Switched to first person. Is it confusing?

Strix looks at the flowers, then at Dario and sniffs.
"Think you need one, chum."
and hands it over. If anyone didn't get one he'll offer them one.
Would Strix recognise any of the flowers? Might be more Misty or Dario's department.
