You reach over the ledge, grab hold of some vines, and swing the lift closer. You spend the next 10 minutes or so cutting away the foliage and inspecting how structurally sound it is. Overall it appears to have been installed about how long ago Orbid mentioned he's been working here, 10 years. It looks like he has not used it in some time, and as a result the rope has deteriorated. Other than the rope everything appears to be in working order.
It's 90 ft to the base of the mountain, so two of you all will have to tie rope from your packs together to make this work.

Arlo will do so and I think it’s safe to assume the others would help. If that wheel barrow is still handy, I figure that it’s best to tie the chests closed with yet another rope, load it into the wheel barrow and tie the wheel barrow to the rope to be winched down the mountain. That way we might also use it as an elevator for us - assuming we use 200 feet of rope, so we can lower each other down from the bottom as well as the top, if that makes sense.
Catherine will take out her rope and donate to the cause, bringing the total footage to 200 ft.
Taking your time to ensure a safe descent, you all lash the ropes together, wrap it around the wheelbarrow, and feed it through the pulley arm.
Is someone going to attempt ride down with the first chest or attempt to swing the rope from up high to knock it out of the wheelbarrow when it reaches the bottom?

"Of course," she says picking up the rope as an anchor.
As you give the command to start lowering the makeshift elevator, Catherine makes one unfortanate adjustment of her hands. The sudden unexpected weight causes the rope to slip through your hands.
Arlo, your stomach jumps to your throat as you begin to plumet. You grip the ropes tightly hoping your companions will save you.
Arlo drops about 20 ft before Lucas and Catherine compose themselves.
Make another strength check with advantage to catch the rope, Lucas.
Lucas panics as he realizes the rope is slipping. He quickly digs his feet in and pulls back on the rope, burning his palms as the fibers slip through his hands.
You manage to grip the rope and squeeze as tight as you can. The fibers burn and cut your palms. You do take a point of damage, but your grip holds and Arlo stops plumeting.
Arlo you're able to catch your breath and are relieved to see the mountain side not racing passed your vision.
Once composed, Lucas and Catherine are able to lower Arlo to the ground.

Arlo, you clear yourself and the chest from the lift and give the signal for it to raised. A thick morning dew coats the surrounding grass and a breeze generated by the falls has been keeping a thick fog at bay within the forest. You do not see any sign of danger.
Sieghart, you keep your keen eye fixed on the bowels lf the cave and see no danger. Your bow is kept at the ready should something attempt to waylay you during the vulnerable time of a split party.
After a few minutes of hoisting the lift, it returns to the cliff platform. Catherine will stay on the line to help Lucas lower Happy. Would you all like to send the second chest down also?
When the lift is loaded, then I'll need another strength check, with advantage, from Lucas.

After Happy gives the thumbs up to be lowered you begin to the process. The second your right hand grasps the rope the heightened sensitivity of your wounded skin causes your grip to faulter. Normally it wouldn't be enough for the rope to slip, but this time around it is soaked from the waterfall mist and is slick.
Happy your eyes go wide, your stomach jumps to your throat, and you cling to the make shift lift as you start to fall.
(Would you, Lucas, like to make the strength save, or would you like Catherine?)

(do we have five lengths of rope between us?)

(It comes with most adventuring gear. Sieghart has one.)
Lucas says, "I don't have any rope to offer since most of my gear was left behind in the inn, but I'm happy to lower it down."
(Happy has a rope as well)

I think Arlo will ride down solo first, then chests and people after

Sounds good. Who would like to lead the group in lowering Arlo down? They would be rolling a strength check with advantage.

Lucas' feet find a good grip with the ground. He grabs the rope and says, "Hop in. I'll lower you down. Catherine can you spot me?"

"Let's lower the next one".

Are you sure you’re hitting advantage??? Three checks in a row below ten at advantage seems... unlikely

Click on the number if you’re on your computer. You’ll see it’s rolled with advantage. He’s just very unlucky.
