I feel, as a member of this community, I should contribute by DMing something. I'm not a great DM though, in my experience, so here's something up my alley.

In the prep room you know what's coming. You've seen your opponent, you may have seen them fight. The doors will open and the fight will begin. Some charge, some hide, some use tricks and skills, others spells. The time has come to prove yourself.
All participants will be revived at the end of the battle. The cost of such magic can be costly, but the arena is lucrative. Yet everyone is discouraged from killing unconscious opponents.
Ultimately champions will be granted prizes and will also find wealth and power through the adoration of fans. Some crave it. Others wish only to grow in strength. You have your own reasons for coming here.

Create a level one character with the standard array or 27-point buy stats. Please avoid Unearthed Arcana. In the interest of balance many such features will not be allowed.
You will be competing against other players. Some fights will be team fights, others, one-on-one. I'll change the arena around and adjust the battles based on player feed back, balance, and interest. If you go in one-on-one in one match you may be paired with your former enemy in another.

I will be keeping the thread Public and anticipate eventually running more than one arena at a time on the same thread (we'll see how that goes.)
If a player is inactive during a battle for an extended time the match will be forfeit allowing the other to address new challengers. Please avoid letting this happen.

The first battle begins. Two Contestants enter the arena Victory will be granted to the best 2 of 3 duels. You are given the opportunity to see your opponents and the arena.
One, a pale whispy man, almost floats through the arena. He carries a bow and cross-bow as well as a fencing sword, a rapier. He wears light leather armor.
The other, a dwarf. They say dwarves are always drunk. This one maybe more so than others. He appears to have forgotten his weapons and armor. Maybe don't underestimate him there's a sharpness in his eyes. He carries a walking stick, a quarterstaff that is. Maybe more in his backpack.
The announcer introduces you. "From deep in the mountains, where dragons and other horrors are a daily triffle, quick on his feet quicker yet to strike... Thigh-err Stooone Fiiiiiist!
"Meeting him in the ring... Straight from the land of wishes and ever falling cities, Son of the sky... Puuh-ufff!"
The crowd cheers and the gates are ready. You have every opportunity to prepare the time draws very near the gates will open soon.

I have some questions before I decide where I want to start. Is this an open air arena or is there a ceiling? Walls around the edges? How high? What is the € symbol at 2.5xP? Are the areas by the doors between 1 and 2 open or is the door covering all three spaces? Sorry for the wall of questions, just want to make sure I don't accidentally start in a bad position.

The € is a tree (I wanted to have some plants in all arenas), but I forgot to add it to the key, fixing that now.
At the moment the gates are closed, all three spaces are blocked. When the gates open you will be able to pass through. Each grid space is two characters mostly to even out the appearance. Also you may occupy the same space as a corpse or something so there's room for that to be illustrated without removing stuff.
'The Pits' is a fairly typical fighting ring in a hole in the ground. Its a short 10 foot drop into the pit and the edges are course and would be easy to climb. In the bottom of the pit the earth is turned up from fighting, yet tufts of grass sprout up throughout, as though it recently had grass all throughout. On either side of the pit is a set of steps. You and your opponent are on opposite sides and there are walls for cover.
(If you jump (Athletics or Acrobatics) to climb out DC 15 you can subtract 5 feet from the climb. If you can beat that with passive OK, if you fail you can climb out normal taking 20 feet of move, but the failed jump will cost an additional 5 feet of movement.)
Thry walks into the arena, a mug of ale still in his hand. "And that my friends is how I took down an Umberhulk single handedly, gave that nasty beast a good walloping with my fist I sure did."
Surprisingly enough the dwarf had a booming voice for his smaller stature, he finished his ale in one gulp and climbed down into the ring.

Taking a deep breath, Puff readies himself for the coming battle. Bouncing on his toes a little, which sends him floating off the ground each time, he double checks his bow is slung perfectly and readies an arrow for when the gates open.

Tyr is going to run out of the gate and try and make it to the high wall between D7-8. I can move 25 feet, so if I have to dash to get there thats fine, but if not I want to take the dodge action.
